I would think music or any background noise would be more distracting than anything else, personally. (Although I'd be willing to try having music to form a real opinion instead of just speculation.)

You mean some of you can actually hear when you are in subspace?

I stay away from music or other noises during play. I dont find it disctracting, but i want my sub focused on me and not the beat of the music( or the lyrics if she likes the song). As part of the play, i am  also very verbal.I am constantly commuicating with her. I use this  for mindset( and actually do it sometimes out of fun to the point where they need not physically experience it to feel the physical effects of it).

But thats just me. This is like " what do you need to fall asleep?" Everyone  does something different. I like the drone of a fan personally. Some like tv or music or complete quiet( which i find really annoying as you hear everything lol)

The only music i want her to hear is the sound of my voice though.

Point blank.....do any of you play music during sessions?   If so, what type? (Alternative, rock, jazz, rap etc.)

W/we use music more to cover up the noise of the scene (I get quite loud and neighbors are close) but I rather like it during a scene.  W/we listen to what W/we like which is alternative.

Sincerly,
minxy

Yes, I play music during a scene. What it is depends on the scene. I like music w/ a good beat for rhythmic caning and flogging. I tried some of my punk (Bowling for Soup, No Doubt, among others) once during a scene and my bottom said he found the fact that I sang with the music to be distracting because he felt like I wasn't paying attention to him.

I like some NIN, some Rammstein, some Ani DiFranco, some classical, some R&B, some pop. I'd use country but most of my bottoms don't like it. I mostly just pick a playlist on the computer and let it go on random, which gives a pretty wide variety of styles to choose from.

Sir likes a CD he has of Strip Club Songs for certain scenes, and other than that he goes with mixes that he put together and burned to CD. He does like the Bram Stoker's Dracula soundtrack.

Once in a great while, Daddy might play music... classical or electronica of some sort.

It's really distracting if the music has lyrics.

Might I point out ... There are MORE TYPES OF SCENES THAN JUST FLOGGINGS? - I'm sure some of you DO partake in body worship, in scenes where a slave is serving or catering to You, training set ups, excersises, position drills, and various other aspects which ... Gee darn - Don't mind tunes or beats, or even lyrics at all.

If the tunes distract the slave - yer NOT DOING A GOOD JOB!  If the tunes distract YOU, yer not focusing and USING the music to complete, and "work" the scene.

Try symphonies, try classical, try slow jazz, try mixing all your fave rock ballads, try Disney tunes even (well if Yer doing a Daddy or Mommy Dom scene or some such it DOES fit) ... Try being YOURSELF instead of worrying about what people are thinking, and develop some confidence in Your abilities and talents.  Confidence = Dominance and if MUSIC scares You, good lord ... a slave has got to be a nightmare!
Also if you pick the same couple of discs and use them consistently the music becomes well known and ingrained and is nowhere near a distraction, it's a comfort, a security a never changing facet in an ever changing landscape.  Something to rely on ... Music - is what YOU make it, like all the other parts of the scene.
If rock means its time to clean and symphonies have been used for position drills and you toss on Kid Rock - WHAT do you think the slave will do?  And when the chores are done if you then toss on Mozart, what will that tell them?  Music is a tool, but it's wisest to use tools You understand.
Hope that gives people something to consider, and some possible uses for that tool.

Classical, goth/industrial, and death metal pieces... however, lyrics pull us into ourselves and others, so I always use instrumental and/or barely audible lyrics, as the goal is to get out of one's every day self and experiences, to transcend...

Usually goth, metal, or industrial here...although Type O Negative is my favortie during scenes. I must admit Peter Steeles voice makes me all gooey!! Not to mention the music it's self is dark sounding with out being chaotic and distracting! Hell I just love type o :)

Definitely.  Any kind of rock is a possibility...mostly alternative and hard rock.

i've also played music during massage sessions, whether for my Lord or for someone else...it's very soothing, and helps me concentrate better. For this, i usually use classical music or nature sounds.

Edit: As an added note, music in a scene allows me to concentrate -better-, because i tend to listen to all the noise around the area, especially in dungeons, and that distracts me, most particularly when i'm giving a massage.

Enigma for many scenes

Gentle relaxing ones i like to put on the "soundscapes" channel on our surround sound and let it go. Generally it has good stuff. Love the flute based sounds as well....
