Well, for a long while, we lived one apartment down from my in-laws, my wife's sister and her daughter. The sister is a nice, well-meaning, but basically dull person with parochial attitudes and no imagination. The daughter was twice as stupid and incredibly vicious. For many years, my wife was unwilling to do anything particularly loud because she didn't want to deal with her sister and niece the next morning. I think we were married for three or four years before she bothered to tell her family. Holidays were akward, but we got through them. For the most part, I gritted my teeth and tried to ignore them, although my dislike was palpable, and made our home life a bit strained. Eventually, the niece died (she was never very healthy. I think she choked on her own hate) and the sister moved away, and then we moved. Now it isn't an issue. For the most part, however, when I had to deal with them, I mostly just gritted my teeth and tried to remain civil because I knew it would make my wife unhappy if I blew my stack and said what I was really thinking.
