Seeing as we have a local case where yet MORE Schenectady Police Officers have been caught stealing drugs, beating up people, etc, and long familiarity with NYPD's tactics you'll understand why the Cops don't enjoy the Benefit of the Doubt.

With so many "Bad Apples", they're negligent in policing themselves, so why should we believe they can police society?

Go read your local news, I'm sure you have your own data points of Officer Lawlessness to consider.

It's that same "Honor and Integrity" thing that pissed me off so much about Steven Green, and his merry band or rapists and murders enjoying themselves fucking and killing a 14 year old girl ( who knows how many we DON'know about, btw... ) while wearing the flag of the United States, representing you.

And if you don't think someone raping little girls in your name isn't worth death in the most painful way, well.....

Not necessarily. But after an honest consideration about how many "Bad Cops" there are out there, it's believable.

The problem, I think, is that cops just aren't trained to EFFECTIVELY deal with resistance. Their training is to take control all the time, and do whatever is necessary to regain it.

Idiots will reach for their pepper spray.

Is it simple "Bad Training", or is the Officer in question "Evil"?

Was it "Bad Training" that lead to NYPD killing Amadeau DiAllo, as he stood on his steps, thinking he was being robbed?

Was it "Bad Training" that got the innocent bystander, David Scaringe, shot dead by a cop on NYE2004?

Was it "Bad Training" that got Carolina beat up behind her bar by off-duty, plainclothes officer Anthony Abbate?

If the training makes you do evil, are you responsible?

I think we hanged Nazis at Nuremberg to prove the point that "Just Following Orders" isn't an acceptable excuse, didn't we?

There will always be those out there that will abuse the authority they have.
Are they evil? Well yes some of them are.
Are some of them plain and simply following orders for whatever reasons? Yes im sure some of them are.
The problem is knowing what the true story is. The media isn't well known for its 100% factuality is it?

Neither are many police officers. That's the problem. The need to hold THEMSELVES to higher standards.

Without doing that, The People are best ( SAFEST ) in distrusting them by default.

Yep....There are reports of trying to intimidate and bribe the poor girl who took the beating....Did you catch the part of the story where hey initially charged him with a misdemeanor and released him on an "I" bond....Chicago cops...The largest gang in Chicago....My kinda town!!!

Yes, he is a piece of shit, and he should be kicked off the police force. Being drunk is no excuse. Any man with the potential to beat up a woman half his size for any reason doesn't deserve to be placed into a position of power and authority.

However, what that video does not show is what happened immediately prior to the beating. The bartender was personally using physical force to push him down the aisle, seemingly to kick him out of the establishment. 

Now again, this certainly doesn't justify what the cop later did to her. However, it seems to me that this girl's judgment doesn't shine along with the brightest bulbs. I also understand that the girl got into a physical altercation with another male shortly after the first incident, so maybe she has a character issue herself.

I hate it when people abuse power and authority in such a manner.
In the county where I live, 3 people have died while being arrested,
released or in the custody of the sheriff's department.  A group of
local citizens started a watch-dog group, headed by a retired chief
of police from another city in another state.
 
Of the 3 deaths, one was a college student in the drunk tank,
one was a man suffocated while being arrested and the last
was a blind man released to walk back to the city along
the state highway.
 
When someone sworn to uphold the law and protect the people
behaves in such a way, take away their badge and gun and
prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.  They will
be real popular with their cell mates in the big house.

It isn't 'Bad Training' or bad apples or any other convenient label.

It is a long and obvious pattern that people, given the chance at a little power over others, will abuse it.

Some do it by treating their employees or kids like crap, some do it by screaming at the cashier in their local stores, and some do it by using their police batons illegally.

The more interesting study would be the people in those positions who aren't as prone to the corruption of power.

well the girl wasnt to smart i have to agree.  when i tarbended i always tried to negotiate them leaving and in the 3+ years i think i only had to call the cops on one guy...  most drunks you can talk into leaving most of the time.   i would give them last call and buy them one more for the road on me, plant the thought LOL

my guess is that maybe she thought because she was a woman he woudl have more respect than to hit her.   either way its seriously bad pr to do what he did and she should have called the cops.  it will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.

She SHOULD have shot the scumbag DEAD the moment he raised a finger to her. Jury would have agreed the piece of shit needed killing before he hurt any more women.

( Because you know if he was comfortable enough with the idea of beating a bartender up, how do you think he treats his wife and kids? Or any other random woman he encountered? )

       Fargle, I'm not going to argue for a second that there are not very scummy people wearing badges. 

      I have been taken into police custody a number of times over the years.  I think there is a rule somewhere that you just cuff the big guy to begin with.  You're right.  The policy is to gain control of the situation with the level of force required.  So I cooperate, and I'm cool about it.  I know my rights, but I don't need to piss them off by yelling that fact while they do their jobs.  When they leave, I stay. 

     And when I've seen a nightstick to the gut, Dude was asking for it.  I'm not saying awful things don't happen, mind you, but Rodney just wouldn't stay down, would he?

Unfortunately most people don't agree.  i think most people inherently trust authority (law enforcement) until they have a reason not to.  i can remember having heated debates with my Dad as a teenager and college student about how the police abuse their power.  He was of the mindset that i think many Americans are and that was that "if you haven't done anything wrong/illegal, you have nothing to fear from the police".   So i used to ask him, "this means that the police can just storm into your home or stop your car and search it for no reason?  'Cause as long as you're not hiding anything, you shouldn't mind?"  He basically said "yes" to that.  [image]http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m28.gif[/image]  The fact that many other Americans would also agree scares me to death.  i think anyone who takes anytime to pay attention knows that, even if one is law abiding and not guilty of any crime, bad things can still come their way via law enforcement.  Just ask all the innocent men freed from prison cells and death rows by DNA evidence or anyone who has ever been falsely arrested or charged.  Too many people blindly assume that law enforcement is right in whatever they do because they have been fortunate enough to never be on the receiving end of any of the injustices we read about.  Kinda reminds me of an old song (emphasis is mine).................
