Try Googling the words: Selling used diamonds - on the internet. You will find lots of wholesale diamond brokers, and jewelers that may (and do) buy them.

Thanks Susan, great advice. Do you mind if i copy and paste your message into an email for my daughter?  I'll leave your siggy off of it and just say it's from a friend.

maybemaybenot: Well it seems a waste of funds, that I may be able to use for other stuff. I am not desperate or anything for money, but it's occurred to me lately especially, that if I never wear the earrings (and the engagement ring), that I may as well sell them. Internet diamond brokes to buy them seem to abound, too. Cubic zirconia looks just as good (to me).

proudsub: Of course not, go right ahead. I did the research for both you and she (and me, too. I may very well do this, soon, too, like within the next 2 weeks).

Good luck to her. I too, was frustrated trying to think of how to sell this jewelry, and then one day, I sort of stumbled upon these internet diamond sellers sites - and I do know some are very legit - because I phoned and talked to two of them (just have not done anything yet).

No idea about the diamond selling.  I'm sorry to hear your daughters marriage broke up.  I know how
hard you worked on it.  How much it meant to all of you.

Thanks Gloria.  We did have a nice wedding for her and it was a good way to see some relatives that we hadn't seen in ages.  Two days before the wedding he walked out and said he had changed his mind and was going home.  We all thought he just had cold feet but we should of let him go.  My daughter talked him into coming back.  He left her two more times and came back.  The third time he wanted to come back and she said no, get lost, basically.

proudsub: Nice ring. Very pretty. I'd be surprised if she got less than 2k for it (way surprised), maybe more *like $2500 or 3K, or even more) - and if I were her, I'd maybe ask for more (she can always bring her asking price down. But if she starts out w/ a super "low-ball" price, it's almost  impossible after that, to then ask for more, although, IMO, it also very much  pays to be realistic, too, as far as the asking price.)

I'll be curious to know whether or not she does this, and tries using an internet diamond seller. If I do the same, I will let ya'll know what happens. Having the digital pic to send a potential buyer is great. It just occurred to me I need to better learn how to use my digital camera, if I am seriously going to attempt to do this, too.

Barter might be the best way to go. Nething you/they could really use, and would accept used?

Jewelery devaluates [is dat a woid?] 90% or sommat close, the moment it has been bought... worse than automobiles or ne other commodity.

...barring some special quality such as: belonged to Queen whats-er-name in the somethingth-century... ie, has value apart from being merely jewelry... is nothing remotely resembling an 'investment'.

I sold mine for small 2-digit cash, but for me there was zilch sentiment so no great loss.

I agree. Hard to tell the difference between the real ones and a good CZ.
QVC has some lovely ones at a very nice price. That's where I have gotten mine and have been very satisfied. They have an Epiphany Collection, which is Platinum over sterling silver, some very pretty pieces at a nice price.

maybemaybenot: I have seen a program on QVC re: Ephiphany. I know the cost of total platiunum these days (as opposed to platinum, bonded onto sterling silver) is probably way, way high. A decent-looking subsitute for real diamonds, too only makes sense to me (and ditto for gold bonded to a  piece of jewelry, over sterling, so it looks like "solid" gold).

I know when I received my diamond earrings, for example (they were a gift), I was flattered. But, I felt I could never really enjoy wearing them because I was always so paranoid I'd lose them.

The thought of keeping them in a safe deposit box until I die (at which point, they'd get passed on to a female relative, who would also probably be terrifeid to get much use from them) just seemed a little silly (to me), and obviously to you also.

Susan:

Most of my diamonds were inherited. I was the first girl born on my father's side in 49 years, So I was willed my grandmother and three of my Great Aunt's diamonds. I was young, teens and early 20's when they died and for years I was afraid to wear them for the same reason you state. When I became financially settled, I had them appraised and insured. It's a bit pricy, but I can wear them and not worry. With diamonds and gemstones I have purchased on my own, I have bought the insurance on. Pretty cheap, I think about an additional 75 dollars per piece. That way, if the stone gets lost or damaged, or the setting gets mangled it is replaced with no charge. Even if I need it re sized, it's fully covered. So that gives me a little more security in wearing them.

With the QVC CZ's, they come with a warranty and they do make good on it. I have sent back two times do to damage I caused and they sent me a new one right away.

proudsub:
That is a very pretty piece. Do you have a Zales Outlet Store near you?  I know the one near me, buys back and resells used jewelry. And I believe they give you a pretty decent amount back. Certainly more than the 800 dollars they offered you. I really think I would try E bay, if I couldn't get a decent price for them. I would also seriously look into the online jewlers Susan mentioned. Too bad your daughter doesn't want to have them re set. I think they would make a really nice pendant and tennis bracelet.

If she can't get a fair price for the stones, she can always have them ground up into a fine powder, and snort it along with some of her ex's ashes.

She said she called the Zales where they were purchased and they wouldn't buy them. Thanks for the suggestion.
