Really, has no one noticed the extremely easy color coding, by which your gender and preference is identified to all?

It may not be a complete alphabet of all preferences, but it seems to be more than adequate.

Too bad, as CM has worked to make this site quite user friendly.  Didn't know it was so hard...

Was that aimed at me, because if it was i don't get it lol.

I am MistressGoddessEmpressRulerOfTheKnownUniverse.  You will now bow down before Me and My Dominant husband, the LordDomlyDomGodEmperorDaddySirMasterOfAll.  In case you hadn't noticed, We are very, very dominant.  So bow down already.  We're waiting.  PS -  we are really, really dominant.

The sad thing is that now I'll get a zillion emails doing exactly that.  LOL  There's a pretty high demand for this kind of thing, so it's not like it's ever going to go away.  This honestly appears to be what some "submissives" want to see and relate to right off the bat.  I personally don't get it, but apparently a lot of other people do.  *shrug*  If people prefer to relate to a fantasy title rather than a real human being, that's their lookout, but I don't think that successful long term relationships get built this way.

And you can tell my gender and preference now on this post without looking at my profile? Obviously my submissive female name does give it away but other than that you would have no idea of either. The colour coding only works in certain circumstances.

FukinTroll -> RE: Master Sir Lord Daddy, Or What's In A Name? (4/10/2007 6:08:14 PM)

What if it starts with Fukin?

What about the "precious" "sweet" "lilone" "sub" "slave" "owned" "lost" "open" "takeme" that you see for the subs?

Cliches abound in the scene- sometimes it's good to embrace it, sometimes it's not.

Hey!

If your screen name starts with Master, Sir, Lord, Daddy, or (what the heck) God... you may take this personally if you choose.  Otherwise, consider lightening up.

Do others notice the abundance of such names in Dom profiles, and their female equivalent?  When picking a screen name, I studiously avoided doing that.  Pick a reason (really, pick a reason, any reason...) but one good one would be simply making yourself more easily noticeable.  Think of that old saw about names in a phonebook...

I haven't noticed a similar phenomanon in submissive profile names, but it could be I've missed that pattern.

"A rose by any other name... " etc., and you can call yourself whatever you like, but I can't resist wondering whether it provides the connotation that those soi-disant Master Sir Lord Daddies are reaching for .... ?

*immediately edited for poor spelling.  Good thing my name isn't SuperSpeller...

I am what I am...~shrugs~...a creative dominant.  That does not mean that I will not be someone's Master someday and will then become a creative, dominant Master.  I find screen names amusing, informative, thought out well...or not.  They rarely irritate me.

BRNaughtyAngel -> RE: Master Sir Lord Daddy, Or What's In A Name? (4/10/2007 6:34:48 PM)

Well I do find it funny when someone pops up here complaining that they are receiving sexually graphic emails and their screen name is something like fuckincumslut or some other graphic name. [8|]  Ooohkay.

SirDominic -> RE: Master Sir Lord Daddy, Or What's In A Name? (4/10/2007 6:43:52 PM)

Does the term "Much Ado About Nothing" ring a bell?

There are so many useful things to be concerned about. Screen names ain't one of them.

I'm Sir Dominic. That's not because I couldn't come up with a clever phrase to hide behind. I use my name (and show my picture) because that is who I am. There's no hubris behind it. I know who I am; I don't need or want to pretend to be anything else. It really is that simple.

Namaste, Sir Dominic

I agree.  I'm more interested in knowing the person.  Now if his screen name had been "youre_my_bitch" or something like that, I may have thought twice about replying (laughing at your post, BRNAngel), but a Sir, Master, etc.?  No biggy to me.

I've never really thought about the cliches used in names before other than thinking lack of imagination was behind it.

I find your name, and others, "creative" and descriptive.

I never said I was annoyed or bothered, I merely commented on an abundance and gave my opinion of the relative merits of choosing the same name as nearly everyone else...

One wonders (again, without being "bothered" or "annoyed")  why so many posters equate an observation with an adverse reaction??

Let's begin by saying I hope you realize you're coming from quite an egotistical position, denouncing a predominant archetypal alias system without so much as a legitimate leading inquiry. You're well aware this is inflammatory; it is unbecoming of an individual in this lifestyle.
This said..
You must be aware of the importance of labeling in this lifestyle. Typically, in real life, one must be denoted as either male or female if the individual carries a unisex name. In this life? Dominance/submission, sadism/masochism, gender, and age are all important. An alias that answers some of these in its saying puts those using it ahead of the game in being informed. While conveying subtleties of one's nature in an alias can be "clever" at first glance, this is only a false impression after the individual has failed to take into account priorities.
I feel it's important to, since I'm afraid you're misunderstanding this, the Greeks were not great intellectuals, nor was the myth you're referring to somehow more intelligently designed than Star Wars. It was a mass-appeal story told by traveling entertainers. It has about the same depth as a drama on the Lifetime channel.
Not to seem.. overly mean.. you just strike me as pseudo-intellectual.

This isn't to say your point, while taken to an offensive extreme, is baseless in all circumstance.  I often wonder about the Domme's who call themselves "Goddess", wondering what supernatural powers or ultra-human abilities they would claim to have.  Still, this is a community of respect, and, should I care to make a post about it someday, I'd ask their reasons instead of insulting them for words I've shoved down their mouths.

Because most of us in this lifestyle are highly charged emotional human beings and therefore are ultra sensitive to what is perceived as criticism.

A dictionary was a help in finding my name.  The first definition i read = it was the golden glow given to aged beauty, I thought that sounded lovely.  So i decided to use it to inspire myself.  I have since learned there are more = encrustrations on objects, i.e. brass.  But these too are consider things of worth once they are polished like a diamond in the rough. So once i am trained and polished I will be a valuable asset to a Masters house.

edited to add prayers to the gods to allow it to be so.

and to tell Troll he is a lost cause but we love him anyway  lol
