from Fox News:

"Syndicated talk-radio personality Don Imus apologized Friday for calling members of the Rutgers University women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos" during a segment yesterday in his "Imus in the Morning" show.

Imus and his producer and on-air sidekick, Bernard McGuirk, went on to further attack the black members of the team, calling them "jigaboos and wannabees."

In his apology, Imus called his comments "insensitive and ill-conceived."

George Allen brought back mucaca
Kramer contributed to the "n" word being outlawed

Guess Imus & all of the other racist idiots of the world are running out of fresh material & are looking for relatively unused inflammatory terms

sad sad sad sad stuff... who do we blame for these mentalities... society or their parents?

It's hard to guess how this is gonna go.  Isaiah Washington was sent to rehab to learn not to say "faggot."  Ann Coulter got away with it.  Michael Richards groveled for forgiveness for saying the "N Word."  Hard to say what'll happen with Imus.  It really amazes me that not only do educated people still think words like "jigaboo" but they are stupid enough to then go ahead and say them.  What in hell did he THINK the reaction was going to be?  Did he think his audience was going to agree and laugh it off?  Surely not.  Truly boggles the mind......slave luci

Coulter got away with it because no one is surprised she said it, and because she's a writer who mostly makes her money through her books and doing free-lance appearances. So there is no one to punush her for saying it. The government is prohibited from doing anything about it because of the first amendment.

Same with Kramer. He is a free-lance comic that doesn't really work for anyone. So again, no one can go after him. Also the context was different. I think I remember in Kramer's case, it was supposed to be a joke that went bad. And he appologized for it. But I think that makes an important point about how black comedians are allowed to use the n-word but white comedians are not. Look how many times Chris Rock will use that word. It is a double-standard based on race. Isn't that racism in itself?

Imus on the other hand works for what is supposed to be a mainstream media network. So it is a bit more difficult for him to get away with it.

True...as it should be.

Well, that's the case whether it's comedians or not.  Kind of like Foxworthy and the other Blue Collar Comedy Tour guys.  They call themselves rednecks and goof on themselves.  Seems like people think if the names and jokes come from someone who is a "member" of the group being talked about, it's ok.  Somehow it seems to be palatable to many folks if Rock says the "N Word" or Foxworthy says "redneck" but if they called each other that, it would be horribly racist to those same folks.  Go figure.........
Imus on the other hand works for what is supposed to be a mainstream media network. So it is a bit more difficult for him to get away with it.
I'm sure you're right.  He does have sponsors unlike Coulter, Richards and some of the others.  He's taken the first step though - he's apologized whether he's sorry or not.  We'll see how it plays out from here........slave luci

I have read many of your post...you clearly posses a three digit IQ.  So it would appear that your inability to understand  Chris Rock's use of this word is choice.  The only double standard that is here is the one you have created and not one that actually exists.

i would think you would have to admit that a double standard DOES exist when using words like that.  Saying there's a double standard is simply saying it's ok for some to say it while others can't.  That's true.  When Chris Rock says the "N Word," it's funny to many people.  When someone who isn't black says it, it's usually not considered so amusing.  That's just a fact.  So that IS a double standard.  Personally, i think Chris Rock is one of the funniest comedians ever and his bit on the difference between being black and being a nigger is one of his best.  IMHO, sometimes double standards are ok...........slave luci

i couldn't agree more.  Master and i had this same discussion.  It boggles my mind that Imus would come out with something like that.  He just seems above it.  But the biggest shame is that all these good things he does may suffer.  He'll probably lose sponsors and the support of lots of people who choose not to hear or accept his apology.  He was foolish enough to say it and perhaps he did mean it.  His apology may not mean that he still doesn't think those things.  But i hope the causes he supports won't suffer unduly because of his rash, unthinking statements.......slave luci

I had to stop right there. You buy the IRS excuse that the ranch is for kids? Yeah, just like Michael Jacksons ranch was for the kiddies.

Imus was always a 2nd tier Howard Stern wannabe. Actually, he started as a Soupy Sales wannabe.

thompson........

It was not really that I agreed, or have some sort of knowledge that they are nappy headed hos. The spirit of it was, who cares if they are nappy headed hos ? Nappy headed hos can be cool.

Incidentally, I thought ho might mean loose, but I never thought it specifically meant hooker, prostitute or whore. But then I am a knuckle dragging wierdo. As such I don't always understand those big words. Really, I thought the basis of that slang was HOle, not wHOre.

In light of this I ask, can a male be a ho ? If so I got a buddy who would qualify. He is a slut, and he knows it. However he is not homosexual, so I dunno if we can actually call him a ho. Please advise.

People are ridiculous. Look what happened to Jimmy the Greek. He pretty much said "The Black guy is going to win, they have bigger ass muscles". That took him to media obscurity in one half of a heartbeat, why ?

A politician also got the same treatment after using the word 'niggardly'.

Have people forgotten the old saying 'sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me' ? Is our self worth so fragile ? If so we got alot more to go in the way of maturity. I would have to say that the speaker or orator is not to blame, the listener is.

I'll try to post a link to a vid of Imus on Al Sharpton's radio show this morning:

I have to admit I was a bit let down that he did it also.  I used to watch him a lot in the mornings, and although I didn't always agree with him, I usually found what he said to be intelligent.  I hope it can be worked out somehow, and he can dig himself out of it.

Well at the minimum he will get suspended for two weeks.  As said on CNN though tonight it is kind of ironice that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have come down so hard on this issue since they aren't exactly the paragons of virtue based on their past behavior.

Oh, you poor man, I'll let you have the log-in information for my sirius account(I'm not a morning person), so you can listen to Howard instead. I can't imagine the hell you must be living through.

lol, no they're not, but they have to say something, that's their schtick. If they let it slide, they look bad in front of their followers. I don't dislike either one, but wouldn't it have be interesting if Imus had started screaming "Tawana Brawley" at the top of his lungs while on Sharpton's show.....
