ORIGINAL: farglebargle Yeah, well if he wants "States Rights", let him honor the States Rights to legislate across the board. That's the problem with this hypocracy. I'm NOT a fan of the feds, and the way I look at it, is if it's important enough to delegate to the Feds, it's important enough for a Constitutional Amendment. I am with you there, I think that my state would be better off if we paid less for the federal government, and paid more state taxes to run our lives the way we like. It seems that federal rules tend to hold us back, and I resent that. We pay the most overall in taxes, and we get told that we can't do what we like all the time. An example is our foster care system. The feds told California that we have to have every foster parent go through foster parent class, they have to have a room for the child, the child has to have their own dresser and closet. I agree with this in principle, but the problem is that is applies to even family members of the child like grandparents and aunts and uncles. In other words a grandparent that lives in a one bedroom apartment cannot intervene and keep their grandkid from a temporary or permanent foster placement if they have not had parenting classes and move first... that to me is just retarded. California ignored this fed mandate until the feds stated all federal monies to this state would be cut off if we refused to comply. Also, California wanted to extended assistance to single mothers that could not find work, the feds told us we cannot do that. It seems that we are not allowed to be charitable with our own money.
