Yeah, well if he wants "States Rights", let him honor the States Rights to legislate across the board.

That's the problem with this hypocracy. I'm NOT a fan of the feds, and the way I look at it, is if it's important enough to delegate to the Feds, it's important enough for a Constitutional Amendment.

I am with you there, I think that my state would be better off if we paid less for the federal government, and paid more state taxes to run our lives the way we like. It seems that federal rules tend to hold us back, and I resent that. We pay the most overall in taxes, and we get told that we can't do what we like all the time.

An example is our foster care system. The feds told California that we have to have every foster parent go through foster parent class, they have to have a room for the child, the child has to have their own dresser and closet. I agree with this in principle, but the problem is that is applies to even family members of the child like grandparents and aunts and uncles. In other words a grandparent that lives in a one bedroom apartment cannot intervene and keep their grandkid from a temporary or permanent foster placement if they have not had parenting classes and move first... that to me is just retarded. California ignored this fed mandate until the feds stated all federal monies to this state would be cut off if we refused to comply.

Also, California wanted to extended assistance to single mothers that could not find work, the feds told us we cannot do that. It seems that we are not allowed to be charitable with our own money.

It is not your money it is tax money. It goes for ALL the government regulation and monitoring not just the causes and regulations that you support.

You can still be as charitable as you want. Better yet, eliminate all social engineering programs and the appropriate regulations and make it all supported by voluntary charitable contributions. That would seem to provide more freedom to those administering to the programs as well as those, such as yourself, desiring to contribute.

why would you do that?

The point i was trying t make is that the pollution equipment actually makes it worse than without it.  Of course that is on a properly tuned up car

What type of vehicle is it and what are the emmisons readings you are looking at?

The story ignores a recent study that determined that a large percentage of the current pollution over LA comes from Asia. Are the considered regulations going into effect at the source?

Isn't the whole point of carbon emmissions that it is similar to the CFCs and HCFCs (ozone depleting materials) in that it is not local environmnetal issues but wider impacts that are important.

Contrary to your view, most of the evidence countering the IPCC statements is looked at and included in the scientific reviews, it is politicians and acivists not environmental or climate scientists that label dissenters as crack pots. The IPPC published position is a very conservative estimate. Saint Al simply reacted to the American publics unwillingness / inability to read deeper than the 30 second sound bite and righteous self interest, so he produced a marketeers advert for US consumption.

California has much more space than the LA basin.

wish i could remember exactly....  it was an old pacer with a straight 6.  one reading was about 1/90th and the other was about 1/10  i forget which were which.  after the big fight with them over it they now changed the testing to "pass no pass" rather than list actual numbers.

Pople would do the world a favor but punching holes in tha cat convertor plugging everything up for pollution*put a bb or screw in the hose LOL, then tune up well and they would be polluting much less...

But the thing is all of the Bush appointees (excluding Bush 41's Souter, who has been a deep disappointment for the Right) all had dissenting opinions... so their bullet proof jobs did not help them do the right thing... sighs.. from the article

quote:

New regulations limiting greenhouse gases would probably force automakers to produce vehicles that burn less gasoline.

Agreeing with Stevens' opinion in Massachusetts vs. EPA were Justices Anthony M. Kennedy, David H. Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen G. Breyer.

Disagreeing were the court's most consistently conservative members: Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. and Justices Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas and Samuel A. Alito.

Since I did not know who had voted for what my original post was to the effect of which one of those ungrateful bastards....?
Now I know which ungrateful bastard did not uphold the bush & co. position.  While Souter was appointed by daddy it is still a family dynasty and Souter does not appear to be toeing the family line.

Kennedy is the "turncoat", a Reagan appointee.
