#!/usr/bin/perl is only required by unix shells. The script, in it's entirety should run unmodified on any platform sporting a Perl interpreter.

I belive ActiveState's ActivePerl is the standard for wi[n|mp]tel platforms.

FWIW: REAL Computers ship with a Perl interpreter already installed into the base distribution.

As Rule pointed out, these patterns relate to bubble geometry and are typical of convection cells. They even exist in the earth’s mantle. We don’t see large scale ones in our atmosphere owing to the irregularity of the earth’s surface and the relatively energetic activity of air and ocean currents. We do see small hexagonal features in clouds on occasion and other ordered arrangements too.

Order can arise from chaos.

Saturn’s atmosphere sits on a liquid layer and is not subject to surface disruptions. It will be interesting to see if the south pole reacts similarly in the depths of winter, when polar hurricane season ends. But as winter lasts fifteen years on Saturn I don’t know if there will be any instruments in the area to make that observation.

I don't know if this is relevent to the thread but the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland is hexagonal and made from lava.

I think it's a rather different process, MC, having to do with the way the magma cooled, rather than how it rose to the surface. But it does show how pervasive the hexagonal shape is in nature, at all scales and with both inorganic and organic systems.
