This is the only part that is replying to. If some people want to try and get others to do this..rock on. If others do..then so be it..they have found common ground in a vast universe. If others are asked and they don't wish to..rock on..they probably already have a happy place in the universe.

Rituals, protocols, disciplined behavior, rules and requirements of a class can be harmonizing, energizing, bonding, and give purpose and meaning to many people who can't find that which they need just floating about in the world.

Well Wishes

adanaydi -> RE: Reviving "old protocols"??? (3/27/2007 12:45:38 PM)

this one offers greetings...

<giggles> this thread is certainly amusing to this girl, as it parallels a topic once brough up in a gorean chatroom about "Old Gor" and "Old Protocols"... Most D/s relationships today are what the two (or more) involved make it to be, whatever rules made by the Dominant there wants... put a group together, and it may take forever to get the Masters and Mistresses to agree on one set of protocols to lay down bylaws in the group, much less agree on what may or may not be "Old" protocols...

this one, as a slave is very fond of observing a Master for a few minutes in a chatroom, or room offline, perhaps to get an idea of how he prefers things before she offers to serve him. Unless a Master tells her differently, she pretty much will follow the protocols of her original Master's training... most find those pleasing.

ada.

How old and how far back?  Hell, What about them Good old Roman Days.
When slaves had Multiple uses and functions.  I hate it when people start up
talking about OLD days.  When? What time period?  I think it is all according
to what you see fit as a Master and what the sub/slave is willing to go.
After all True Slavery is not legal.

Whew! You had me sweating LaT. For a minute there I thought you just wanted sex.

Mmmm... I'm thinking about running with a Roman
or Egyptian theme, as opposed to Gorean or Gothic.

At the local munch the other night, someone mentioned that there is a new group that is trying to get members who are interested in reviving and living the old protocols. This peaked my interest so I inquired further and asked what exactly was meant by that. The person responded that the group wanted to attract people who are interested in going back to the way things were when this all first started.....the days when slaves could not use furniture. You know...the times when they were kept naked and not allowed to speak. Yadda, yadda, yadda......

I think I must have missed something. These must have been the protocols that were laid out in that handbook that came with the secret decoder ring from one of those secret European Houses.

Do you think that these ideas of "how it was" come from ignorance? The internet? Influences of Gor? How does this stuff get perpetuated as being accurate?

Stupidity, inability to discern, and the desire to be in what they percieve to be the in crowd.

Archer -> RE: Reviving "old protocols"??? (3/27/2007 3:26:07 PM)

There were protocols that were followed within various clubs and later regionally back during the 50's through the 70's (what most consider the days of the "Old Guard" of gay leather. Even then though they were influenced by pornography available at the time. But there were protocols some documents even remain discussing them even though they were far from universal. They did tend to be reflections of each other though since the general values of people and the resources available were limited.

Follow the history of fetish porn and you'll follow the history of what we do. After all art immitates life which immitates art.

I enjoy some of the older protocols I have found from various sources, but trying to get a group started to follow a set with the main reason for the group being the protocols is rather self limiting. The protocols they used had a reason and fit the times they were in. They were designed with thought and reason beyond themselves. The clubs developed them for themselves to serve their philosophies back when groups were EXCLUSSIVE (with both meanings good and bad). Now that groups have become inclussive by and large we have different trouble/ problems.

Personally I would rather see someone start a group with a wider purpose and have the protocols designed to support the well being of the group.

Greetings WhiplashSmile,

If you want to stay away from Gorean, then do not include Roman.

Personally, I think its someone or a small group who enjoy that particular kink trying to make it universal to the group.  However, they know its likely to meet with resistance so to lend authority to the idea they claim its actually just reviving an old tradition.   It gets perpetuated because there will always be someone else who tries to use it as a way to push their personal kinks and ideas; but, unfortunately there isn't always someone who can challenge it with the truth.

ExSteelAgain -> RE: Reviving "old protocols"??? (3/27/2007 5:24:35 PM)

I think it's lame-ass BDSM speak.
