Tuomas -> RE: Female dominated culture.... (3/30/2007 4:05:41 PM)

Going back to the original theme, and that of the peoples of Tibet, I think it's quaint. You know, like when we used to have a monarchy and stuff. Not going to last, because it will become a tourist attraction. Interesting that a "female dominated" society is a tourist attraction. Interesting as well, that the basis of the female "dominance" in this society is sex. Clearly men still engage in economic production (farming, fishing), as illustrated by the only man who was interviewed. However, said production is delivered to females on demand. In other words, the guy wouldn't work, unless some woman told him to. So, basicly, men are lazy. This laziness translates in the men not having any wealth, and become economic slaves to their female counterparts. Like poor people in the US who depend on the government. In fact, let's contrast this with the "ghetto" culture. There are some interesting similarities, like how the owners (at least by perscription) of most of the ghetto "aparments" and homes are women. Women largely hold the purse strings in such relations, being they are the recipients of welfare and childsupport. They have occasional men over for sex, and they see to it that the children are "taken care of". Most of the males (or "pimps") do not have a stable residence, sleeping at different locales as per the indulgence of their "girlfriend" (she kicks them out and gets a restraining order if they get into a fight). In fact, the only dissimilarity in their cultures is that in ghetto-land, the men still make the first move. Or maybe not. It's been a while since I've been there. Personally, I think the whole idea of society being dominated by a gender is hogwash. No one has given me my male chauvinist decoder ring, nor the male credo to "dominate women" -and I can be just as much a chauvinist pig as the next guy. Or am I being discriminated here?[8|]
