The drug is now illegal in the USA, but is legally prescribed in Mexico and most of Latin America for insomnia and anxiety. You should know that the doses for these conditions are smaller than the doses used for inducing euphoria and amnesia. Therefore Hoffman-Laroche has eliminated the larger packaged dosages. This leads to people using the drug illicitly to overdose as they take increasingly larger doses. Hoffman-Laroche maintains a large, licit distribution network in Central America.
One could, if one were so inclined, and one lived in a state bordering Mexico...like...oh, say...TEXAS ... easily obtain legal prescriptions. Then if one chose to not violate US law and import the drug, one could experiment with it in sunny Mexico. I would advise learning EXACTLY how the legitimate doses are packaged and marked, as there are many counterfeit versions, with ingredients that go from benign and ineffective to very deadly. I'd also be careful of "cocktails" packaged with Versed (a legal drug with some good properties but tremendous abuse potential) and/or Ketamine (a legal animal tranquilizer with potentially devastating effects in humans).
Or one could settle for a nice hot cuppa tea.
Oh, and while it probably won't matter to the Mexican doctor, the actual spelling of the name of the drug is "Rohypnol".
