There's that "true" word again. Why such a fascination with being "true"?

Isn't the mere fact that we as a community, and we as individuals are claiming the portion of ourselves that screams to wield or yield that make us true? Why must we be true in the eyes of others? Aren't our own eyes and those of our chosen the only ones that matter?

I want to find whoever started that "true" crap and write it on their forehead in sharpie. Just so everyone knows they're "true". Jeebus crisp!

Maybe I could get a steel toed boot and write "true" on it with marker. Then kick people in the ass that use it in the reference to any orientation.

Gah. I'm done.

It just seems many people have to use that word to give themselves validation for whatever reason. IMHO one should be less focused on labelling themselves as "true" and focus on being honest with themselves and others. It kind of makes me wonder if they attempting to portray themself as more believeable than what they actually are?

Well I say fake slaves, just like blondes, probably have more FUN anyway.[:D]

Pardon me for a moment, but I do believe the word is spelled "twue" to distinguish the twuest submissives from those whom are only somewhat true. [:)]

Welcome Ms Rose,  nice comment!

*sighs*  i hear you on this one.  what is "twue" these days? is there really the ONE absolute standard that all submissives/slaves must follow in order to be consider "twue"? the same applies to Dom/mes too.  my take on this subject is - your version of what "twue" is doesn't automatically fit and/or coincide with everyone else. we all have different ways of defining what is twue due to our own individual D/s relationships.

mixielicous -> RE: There's that word again! (small rant) (3/22/2007 6:12:11 AM)

i have no problem with the word, although i dare not attempt to define it. the reason that i dont cringe when i see it.... well, there ARE a bunch of fakes out there. that just makes the rest of us the true ones. i think people over anaylize the word when they should be applying it more often. to each slave it will mean something different, but all that matters is that you are true to yourself and your nature and i think that makes a true slave.

now the fakes? thats another thread - har har har[:D]

First, the referenced quote was taken from a larger quote and not knowing what context this statement was made makes it difficult to understand the full intent of the statement.

Second, we each define what is "true" for ourselves.  Everyone has there own perspective, their own reality and their own truth.

i don't see any problem with someone using the word "true" when they are expressing their own perspective on things.  i don't see where the person said anything to indicate that this was the only truth or that all others must prescribe to this statement as being true.  It isn't, after all, from what i can tell, a statement from the OFFICIAL HANDBOOK of slaves.  It seems to be just a part of one person's attempt to express an idea.

This is a public forum for people to express their views and individual views are always subjective to that person's perspective.  i don't think such things as using the word "true" should be so objectionable.  Take the comment with a grain of salt, realize that it is just this person's way of expressing their idea, try to see what point this person is trying to make, comment (or not) on the idea(s) expressed, rather than pick out one word to complain about.  i enjoy reading the many different viewpoints expressed on this board, whether they happen to fit for me or not.  And, all the complaints about the use of certain "bad" words, just seems to me to be taking away from, rather than adding to the free exchange of ideas here.

here is exactly where the problem originates. people see that word, and assume it means, "i do it this way, so you are WRONG WRONG WRONG" when in reality the word is being applied to one person only, the speaker.

I don't find anything wrong with the quote, in fact. It's simple and correct. I would rather strive to understand the reasons for the larger trend of insisting there is no such thing as truth.

SweetSarijane -> RE: There's that word again! (3/22/2007 6:49:24 AM)

From what I see, people into WIITWD are too hung up on that word. It has only the power you give it and it seems a lot of people are giving it a lot of negative power over them. My truth isn't everyone's truth. I am me and make no apologies for it nor do I worry if others think I'm true or wonder if others are true.

Thank you amayos, you said it better then I could have. For me, the ones that insist on using the term "twue" are the ones screaming they are soooo much better and tend to make it to my "not worth reading" list more often then not.

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: There's that word again! (small rant) (3/22/2007 7:17:01 AM)

IMO most people DO use it as a way to put down others and apply their very limited perspective of "what this all is" to places and people they have no business doing so.

But not always.

I will echo this.  I have never before seen such a retaliation against "true" as I have when I came to CM.

I interpreted her as saying the mockers of "true" come across as more condescending and righteous as those who use the word "true."

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: There's that word again! (small rant) (3/22/2007 7:50:56 AM)

Well I will add that there can be a problem- when someone says "A true slave would never top" and you happen to be a slave who tops, you feel an urge to raise your hand and go "Wait a sec, not quite so fast"

ownedgirlie -> RE: There's that word again! (small rant) (3/22/2007 7:54:55 AM)

I would think that's where conversation would come in.  We're always talking about the importance of communicating here, for the sake of understanding.  If I felt someone didn't understand me I would either a) try to educate them to my perspective so that they do; or b) decide they aren't really worth my energy and smile and say "ok."    It's the up in arms defensiveness and mockery which turns me away from wanting to bother explain myself.

Devilslilsister -> RE: There's that word again! (small rant) (3/22/2007 8:10:42 AM)

yeah Mixi... i'm confused too.

I've read Jewel's reply 3 times and i'm not sure... It sounds like she's agreeing with Amayos and yet disagreeing with him.... gah.. i just woke up thought it was me.

i dont know why everyone has to OBSESS over the usuage of the word.  Can we find a new word to obsess over?  Find one, pick one, w/e - but all this true and real stuff is getting so old and over played.

Who cares anyways?  Whats the big dealio?  Some one calling me fake or not real is not going to change MY day.  I'm not going to particularly care, so i guess i'm at a loss as to why you all care?
