Are you saying that all war protestors do not support the troops?

juliaoceania -> RE: peace protesters support the troops (3/19/2007 7:29:17 PM)

So because someone did something somewhere, this defines the entire movement? I suppose by this logic because a few people tortured prisoners at Abu Grab that this defines every person in uniform. I think that it is much more fruitful to ask every person how they feel about supporting the troops rather than saying that a few people holding a banner represent everyone.

I do not know for sure who took that picture, where it was taken, or if it was staged. I have no belief in photos posted on some blog as being completely true without any context behind them.

I took it that way

I'd certainly hate to be the one to say that.  Quick, find a link to Cindy Sheehan denouncing them and every Dem candidate for the nomination apologizing for them.  Hell, find me anybody on the Left denouncing them.

WyrdRich -> RE: peace protesters support the troops (3/19/2007 7:35:09 PM)

You know, Stern, I've been out running some errands and contemplating my reply to another thread about why we take the political positions we do.  I think your link saves me a LOT of typing.

juliaoceania -> RE: peace protesters support the troops (3/19/2007 7:35:41 PM)

Prove those came from a protest. We are assuming that they are real. I do not know that, but if you know it please show me the proof. Also prove to me these were not operatives doing some psyops. Some agent provocatuers sent out to discredit the peace movement. We do not know if these photos are real, we do not know who these people are that did this, we do not know the context of why it was done, yet you are stating things based upon an image that you have no idea of what the history behind it is.

SimplyMichael -> RE: peace protesters support the troops (3/19/2007 7:36:51 PM)

A couple of idiots burn an effigy and all the rest of us have to own that?  I guess then than you have to own being a white supremacist who believes all blacks, browns and jews should be killed and we should nuke the middle east.

At least "our" side could predict the events in Iraq and had the brains to ask "your" side to at least have the courtesy to plan the occupation, something you forgot to do.  So, while "my" side burns soldiers in effigy, REAL AMERICAN SOLDIERS are getting blown up by munitions taken from unguarded munitions dumps because YOU used too few troops, did TOO little planning, and in short YOU have so far allowed a few thousand troops to die and tens of thousands more to be crippled and wounded.

SO, I think "my" side still has a rather lofty moral position over yours.

SimplyMichael -> RE: peace protesters support the troops (3/19/2007 7:38:11 PM)

Rich, give me a break, please tell me you don't actually believe that the majority on the left want harm to come to the troops?

Rich, find me a link showing the Republican candidates denouncing every single act of right wing idiocy that I would in no way blame you for.  I am sure somewhere in the south there is some white guy blaming jews for the moon not being made of cheese.

We have some serious problems facing this country and if 10,000 people burned effigies, the bigger problem would STILL be the smoke, not the effigies.  Wouldn't you rather they deal with issues like jobs, the economy, liability reform, terrorism?  Or do you really think spending time renouncing every local idiot who does something you dislike?

t3nth0usandv0lts -> RE: peace protesters support the troops (3/19/2007 7:40:27 PM)

I *am* a peace protester. Those are not. Fuck the Troops doesn't sound very peaceful to me... jmo.

I guess we can also dispense with the fairy tale that you're anything but an intellectually and morally bankrupt troll.

Thanks for taking the time to clear that up.

No, I don't believe that.  But I do believe that assholes like these have way too much power in the Democratic Party and expect the nominee to tongue their balls.

Want me to vote Dem in 11/08?  Give me a candidate who tells these punks to go to Hell.

SimplyMichael -> RE: peace protesters support the troops (3/19/2007 7:48:58 PM)

Rich,

People burning troops in effigy have zero power in the Democratic party.  Bill Mahr and his audience are not exactly center America.  The other night when someone was bitching about how wounded soldiers are lying in their own shit because Republican's are too cheap to pay the bills and how instead they should be lying in silk sheets and using gold plated bedpans the crownd cheered in support of the troops.

Go to www.dailykos.com and you will see real support for and BY the troops.   Republicans all to often support the troops with nothing more substantial than a bumpersticker.  The issue of VA care and its lack of funding has been raised over and over again on liberal blogs all over this country.  I am not talking recently but over the YEARS we have been in this pointless and poorly led war.

So no, those "pinkos" are not in power, nor do they have influence in the Democratic party.

Again, how do you know these photos are real? I am sincerely asking this

SimplyMichael -> RE: peace protesters support the troops (3/19/2007 7:52:53 PM)

Julia, how the fuck would Rich know, do the work yourself.

I went and there were assholes burning effigies, although since they had a skull they were not exactly effigies of us troops.  I could NOT find the ones that said "fuck the troops" and that might be fake but it might have come from someplace else.

There are idiots out there who do this sort of moronic stuff, they have that A in a circle which I think is one of the asshole cowardly anarchist groups and that is exactly the sort of ill thought and and stupid stunts they would pull.

juliaoceania -> RE: peace protesters support the troops (3/19/2007 7:55:53 PM)

Then there are my other questions Michael... are these people agent provocateurs? Do they work for the government? We really do not know who the hell they are, do we?

Edited to add, when I was in The City a couple of years ago marching there was nothing like this. I marched next to a mother of someone stationed in Iraq. She was distraught.

The first two pictures appear to have been taken in the Park Blocks, behind the Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland OR.  Can't say they weren't photo-shopped by somebody good, but I sent the link to my Brother.  He goes to school a few blocks away.  I doubt I'll get a reply tonight though.

Somehow, I think that if the media had this it would be plastered all over the evening news.  Somebody in Portland would be apologizing out their ass.

juliaoceania -> RE: peace protesters support the troops (3/19/2007 7:58:58 PM)

Do you know who did these acts?

You do not know if they were really war protestors, do you? They could work for some government agency for all you know, or some Right Wing organization that wants to discredit the peace movement

The problem with that theory is that I'm from Portland, Julia.  I know the political climate and the radical left of the city.  Those pics are right in line with what lives there.  Simply is right about them being the anarchist fringe.

Why are you so eager to deny the photos are real, Julia?  Have you bought into Hillary's 'vast right-wing conspiracy?'  Or is it the unpleasant realization that this is where your energy is going, that these are the people you agree with, showing their true colors?  Kucinich for America!
