Status: offline 		You know if no one ever did anything because there was some doubt - we'd still be monkeys in trees - also SOME of us subscribe to this little thing called ... infomed risk - which means we know it's not common or "normal" we have done the research we feel we are informed and educated enough to assess the risk  and clever enough to decide if we wanna try it.

If I had of listened to you I wouldn't have had My Box pierced repeatedly 20 years ago ... and if I hadn't of done that and proceeded to be REALLY mouthy about this from one end of Canada to the Other while stripping and thus showing OFF the parts in question - no one would have undertaken to have learned what this was about or how it worked or didn't or why, and I doubt it would be in vogue right now.  So ALL those people out there with them cool lil holes would probably never even have got them, but they did - because people took risks and smoothed the waters so the others could do it the easy way. 
You also wouldnt even have a light bulb - so turn one on and try dropping the vanillaite fear factor quotient.  It's your life, it's your body - it's your interest.  If you are willing to take the risk - who'se to tell you you can't?
And would you even listen anyway ...

You pierced yourself with cocktail sticks 20 years ago? Did you ever try wearing the little plastic Martini swords in them for edgeplay? Or break out the paper umbrellas for special occasions?

i've got about two dozen piercings, and only one of them was done by a professional. But if a total stranger wanted to perform piercings with random non-sterile, dull items, i'd still tell them to kiss my ass. Well, unless the money was REALLY good. (i'm a sucker for money )

Status: offline 		Thanks again to all who replied and for your advice but that particular session has just been cancelled....by him, and not because I wouldn't do cocktail sticks (yes, I wrote and told him, needles yes, cocktail sticks no), but because my; 'limits and expectations are beyond what I enjoy' Makes me wonder why he contacted me in the first place.

Labial piercings with cocktail straws and spears (this assumes she already has appropriate holes, and we are threading the drink accoutrements thru).

Nipple piercings with cocktail onions as "barbells".

Margarita salt sprinkled liberally.

Ditto the shaved ice.

And, of course, little fru-fru paper umbrellas inserted strategically.

Status: offline 		You can get infection from any wound even those made in the most sterile environment ask some surgery patents in a hospital as well as sometime even the dirties wound does not necessary get infected ask some kids who was unlucky enough to step on an old rusty nail.
If you have not already had this session what i would do is ask for a sample of what he will be using and try it out myself on a pigs ear or something that is comparable to skin see for myself what damage it does how big a hole it makes how easy it is to penetrate then sterilize it as he would do and see if you can grow a culture with a kids science kit. When i have checked it out myself then i could make and informed decision.

I honesty don't know how safe this is. I wonder what a professional peicer would say about this.  I suspect many would recommend sticking to proven well known methods.  I only know one person that is heavy into body peircing, when he gets back from vacation, I'm going to have to mention this one while having a few drinks at the bar.

Status: offline 		My guess would be about a 10 to 14 gauge needle if the skewers are the ones used for cocktails.  The lowest gauge needles for temp play piercing that  I use are no lower than 18 guage.  10 to 14 gauge are for  permanent piercing. If thats the case this guy doesn't have a clue and I wouldn't let him anywhere near me with any needles.

it's your life, it's your body, but i will never advise someone to go ahead with something i have strong feelings about. piercing is one of those things. it has nothing to do with being vanilla, it has to do with my own feelings on piercing and my very strong beliefs that piercing, play piercing, and other types of needle play should only be done by qualified piercers or people who have been trained to do needle play by qualified piercers. because i have very strong views about this, i will never give someone else the advice that i think they should just go ahead with something that seems incredibly dangerous to me. whether they do it or not is their choice, and that's none of my business. she asked for advice, i gave the advice that fits into my own worldview.

my piercer has been piercing for a Very Long Time, and hey, i trust the guy. he knows his piercing stuff, he knows his needle play stuff. he's also a nurse, and he's very kink-friendly. i don't remember him ever mentioning piercing with unsanitized cocktail sticks being a particularly intelligent thing to do.

You know, slavebitch11 could have gone ahead and been pierced by toothpicks in flagrant violation of the instructions printed on the side of the box for their use.

While it might upset people that she did not consult a professional piercer, it might be more conducive to getting people who dont know things to ask questions and consult professionals if it the recommendation is phrased in the form of a "well, X and Y are probably bad and here is why, maybe you should ask a professional."  Then "Jesus Joseph, Mary and whoever, what kind of blithering dolt are you?"

Might be just me, but I honestly believe we all started somewhere and whether a person actually accepts our advice has a lot to do with how the information is presented.

Theres a difference between asking something out of inexperience and wanting to try new things and go to new limits...
