i do not know that much about the eu, or how it works, but this doesn't seem any different to me - why would one assume it would automatically crash and burn? or that an attitude of cooperation and openness with our neighboring countries would sacrifice our sovereignty as a nation? i suppose since it seems that this would be similar to the european union, in order to get an idea of whether or not it might work, it would be best to look at how that arrangement has worked for them. (disclaimer: i am not very knowledgeable when it comes to immigration control, etc. and do not know much about the politics involved, as i pretty much hate politics and avoid it at all costs. so please excuse me if i'm showing a huge amount of stupidity here; i'm just here to learn, not to argue or contest.)

With new poorer countries in the east, migration for jobs has been restricted for a few years while their economies catch up so not to create massive migrations that could destabilize economies. Maybe my fellow Brits have a different view to me but I'm all for the EU, I see it still has problems but the gains outweigh any problems which I see as being there because national politicians don't want to give up power to their EU compatriots sitting in the European Parliament but want what the EU has to offer their countries at the same time. I also see the Euro(common currency) as a step forward too.

Bigger problem that I have other than the concept itself is this is being pushed on the peoples of the 3 countries without their consent, nor the consent of the legislatures. You have 3 leaders obsessed with elitism and making the rich richer and the corporations more powerful. Already several state legislatures have passed resolutions that declare their disapproval for what the federal government is trying to do. Imagine what will happen if the federal government is successful with this NAU 30 years from now and several states decide not to be a part of it. Civil War?

RealOne, does Bush's 2006 detainee act mean we are no longer going to follow the Geneva Conventions? Did he get us out of the G.C. and get us into that "2006" thing instead? Seems like we never know what he's doing anymore! We can't be in both of those things at the same time can we?

Realone, yes that "amnesty" crap is "Bi-Partisan" but by only a small number of senators (Kennedy, Mc Cain, McConnel, Graham) and Bush who will try to "shove it down the throats of the American People" as one article I read put it. If they "know" that more than 90% of Americans are against any type of amnesty for illegals why are they trying to do it anyway? A good detective always "follows the money" and that money leads to Big Business time and time again under Bush, not to the American People!
