i have a dilemma with my dog (actual animal not a person) and was wondering if anyone else who has a pet that likes to get in the way of a scene/play what they do with their pet. i have tried to keep him in a kennel of sorts but he will whine and start to bark, i am also in an apartment 3rd level. i have also tried keeping him outside on the balcony, which works until he wants in. i'm getting frustrated and not sure what else to do with him. If my Dom and i ignore him he'll go lay down until my Dom has to bring in more toys (we play in my bedroom). My Dom keeps telling me that he's ok with him being around, but i just want to enjoy my time with my Dom since we don't get to see each other very often. Any suggestions would be more than welcome.

Put the dog in another room or outside. Or play somewhere else. He will stop whining. He whines because he knows you will come in and let him out. Don't give in.

if you have nabors with a dog maybe ask them if the dogs can play together
or put the dog in another room

Could you train him to lay quietly during these periods of time? I'm sure it would take work and pretending to be playing a scene in order to train him. We have two cats who are very nosey about our intimate moments. However, we just lock them outside the bedroom.

Get a crate and start crate training - yes, you will annoy your neighbors until your dog is trained ... but in the long run, it's the best option. It will save you potential distruction when you have to leave your dog home alone, as well as giving them a place to go that is "theirs" if they are ever feeling insecure. Feed the dog in the crate, and you will have a great way to put him/her in there without them feeling like it's punishment. When it's time for play, get some dog food or a treat, put that and the dog in the crate, and there ya go.

i usually lock the dog out of the room in which i am playing, but the last time i played with a Sadist, the dog just stayed the heck away!!

I get really big rawhides or other chew-up ables for my dogs when I am doing a sessions. My one dog weights 200lbs and the other likes to run around people.

So it can be a BIG distraction. Also sending them to visit a family friend overnight can help, just pick someone they already know and if they have a dog even better if the dogs get along.

great advice...doggies need their own little spaces and crates are perfect. he will need some time to adjust if he's used to having the run of your place. you may want to put the crate outside on the balcony for starters

(and I can sympathize...Master's doggie wasn't put away last week and joined us at a very, ahem, intimate moment. not my kink, not his either! ick!)

You are not alone here. My boy, Roo, gets very high strung and thinks his mom is in harm's way. I have put him in another room and crated him. He will carry on for hours at a time. It is nerve wracking. I had gotten so desperate that I've even put him in the car (parked just outside my apartment so I can check him).

I have used a "husher" --a soft, elastic, stretchy muzzle that minimizes the barking. I would leave a frozen, stuffed kong with him--which would keep him quiet for a short while. We would play with the music turned up. I had a loud fan on in the room where Roo was kept. Sometimes my Dom paid for my munchkins to stay at doggy daycare for an afternoon or day.

Consistent training would be ideal; however, it was difficult to train for consistency when my former Dom would visit every 2 or 3 months.

After all was said and done, though, Roo would be released and had to check on mom to make sure everything was ok.

but you have to be carfull with a dog in the room aspecialy with when playing becouse the dog can get very protective around there owner thinking that you beating him or her could be very dangerious the dog may atack and protect

If I leave my dog outside the room, he will whine and snivel about not being where people are. So now, he goes over to his corner and lays down and is quiet. It did take me a while before he didn't react to whip falls and the like, but if you can train them to ignore a gunshot, you can teach anything, with patience.

I haven't had the problem the OP is having but I got a laugh out of lilsubl. If I was playing with a sadist, my dog would probably attack the poor guy for hurting me hehe. My mom can't even hug me without my dog growling at her. It makes me feel loved (although in the future it may cause problems when it comes to intimate moments...)

edited because I remembered the purpose of the thread... Sorry but I don't have any suggestions to add--least any new ones. With my dog in the OP's situation, I would just tell my dog to go lay down. I'd probably have to repeat myself tons of times... My best advice (although it's repeated) would be cookie train it. "Go lay down, shush and you'll get a treat."

You took the words right out of me. =) Getting a crate was the best training tool we ever got for our dog. Now all we have to do is say "crate" and she goes right in.

i am a dog trainer and animal communicator, this is what i would do.

your just have to invest more time in training her....there are a number of body responses the dog will go through before he gets to vocalising...ears with spring up or back, he will stare longingly, he will resist physically (trying to establish dominance), he will wag he tail nervously and he will tighten his musscles....when you see these signs, then clearly and authoritatively say "no" and the stare at him till he breaks his stare, and goes to lie down.

if you do this you NEVER have to hit...or raise your voice even.

In a way both. He wants attention and yes my Dom will give him some to satisfy him. But he may also think that he is doing me a favor by protecting him.

Thank you to all for your advice. i am going to have to buy a crate for him. He's a momma's boy plain and simple and wants to be the center of attention. i have tried putting him in another room but he never did settle down and my Dom had to eventually go and get him, since i was a little tied at the moment

. My dog always wants on the bed or wants us to play with him, but i will try the crate training again, since the first time i got a complaint from the neighbor. The stare down technique works until he figures out that if he continues staring at us that we'll eventually give in, which about 80% of the time we do give in.
