Status: offline 		I had a slave invite me to chat and this has happened a couple times. I figured she was fake, but I accepted anyway. Then after I type one sentence, she disappears. This was on the collarme chat. So I figure, why would a faker do that? What purpose is there to it.

So I tried to play a computer game later and it kept crashing. So I shut stuff down on my taskmanager and I have had to do this before as a memory issue to make memory room for high powered games. So I notice this new thing I hadn't seen. So I did a search on it. It was ctfmon.exe. Supposedly a legit part of microsoft office programs. It monitors your active window and is something to do with alternative users. Sounds like a security nightmare to me. I bank and pay my credit cards online. It can appear in your Windows system 32 and supposedly is supposed to be there when you got IE 7, which I did.

I did notice on my search it was in 3 places-Windows system 32, Something to do with windows Service pack(couldn't read the whole thing), and something called a PF file which was modified today. One of the lines on the search said something about prefetch. The other two were Applications. This makes me nervous. Does anyone know what this crap program is and should I try to get rid of it? If you get rid of the legit one, it supposedly causes stability issues.

Status: offline 		What about windows prefetch. Should it be in there. Also-should it be in windows service pack 2? Right when I was panicking about this and searching, right about 925PM, my firewall asked for access for Windows Explorer. It occasionally asks for access for some things, so it asked like 6 times and I thought it was being glitchy. So, stupidly I hit yes several times.

I check the log on the firewall and it says, High Risk-action taken:Changed Module(okay, I'm losing sleep now) and to make it worse There are 4 little windows showing active programs and usually they are Mcaffee and a couple other things. Windows Explorer's symbol is up there for the first time I've seen it. I hit the damn okay on the firewall 6 times. I have to sleep now, what do you think is the best course of action? I don't have time to run the Virus scanner, but I've ran it before tonight and it didn't find anything. I'm hoping my credit cards aren't fucked now.

Why the hell would Windows have a program like that to begin with? I briefly read some of the same sort of things about removing the thing, but don't have time tonight.

Status: offline 		My feeling is, someone was remote accessing my computer with the explorer for at least an hour or so until I totally shut down, then the explorer symbol disappeared when I restarted.

Status: offline 		Thankfully i haven't come across that one. The process running in the background that gives me problems is aolsoftware.exe. It is also in the prefetch directory. Whenever it decides to run it causes my games to freeze up or slow way down. Now the first thing i do before starting a game is to end that process,  I've tried uninstalling it and changing it's name but it keeps coming back.

Status: offline 		It appears in my Windows Prefetch, which one poster on those pages you had said was fine. It appears in windows system 32 and also in Windows\Servicepackfiles\i386. While I was typing this, the windows explorer asked to make a contact again-the prompt was green, which usually means low risk, but I denied it anyway. I just hope that the previous Changed Module thing doesn't allow them total access to my computer whenever they want.

I would also run Spybot and Adaware.  If you don't
know what those are they are free antispyware programs.
Use Google to find them.

Status: offline 		The game I was playing was Lord of the Rings 2: Battle for Middle Earth. Do you think it could have used the program for running funky text, like Tolkien text?

Status: offline 		I ran a Mcafee virus scan. Right when I started it, the scanner always checks for an upgrade. So my firewall immediately brings up an alert-Advance Program-major change. It mentions Mcaffee and something about MISP shell or something and I have to decide yes or no. I hit yes, because it won't scan without the update check. Then the scanner went really slow-took about an hour and a half to scan 145,000 files on two drives. It found nothing, which is odd, since it usually finds a cookie or two.

I have a thing called Pestcontrol from Cincinnati Roadrunner/Time warner cable. I ran that first and it finds some cookies usually. Then I run Mcaffee. Usually Mcaffee finds things the other doesn't. Things seem a little slower running today.

If I remove that program by following the directions on those other sites, will it cause any problem if it is the legit deal? The main issue seems to be that it was modified last night-ctfmon.exe. Does that definitely mean it is screwy?

Status: offline 		I went to that uniblue site, got their "Free" scan, which I usually would never do. It downloads on your computer and doesn't just scan. Then it scans, finds some stuff, but you have to pay to get the full version. It is called Spyeraser. Unfortunately, they didn't make it very erasable, there is no uninstall option. I can use remove program, but if it shared some junk with my Mcaffee and pest scanner, that might cause a problem or two.
