I heard that that guy Al Franken is planning to run for U.S. Senate in Minnesotta as a "Democrat."
When I think of a "Democrat" he'd probably be the last person I'd think of.
More like "Anarchist."
And it has nothing to do with his criticism of Bush because I don't like Bush either and I'm also not a Republican.
I just find it puzzling that he'd run in the Democratic Party as that Party is way to the "right" of his ideas.
Is Al Franken becomming more "conservative?

He has always identified himself as a Democrat and just like every other identifier a person has it does not sum him up as well. Do I think he is more left then the average Democratic politician, yes but I do not think that makes him a socialist. To me Franken has been one of the few public figures to take on the zealot right wingers when it was un cool and costly so he has been a big target for their media war and the nerve of a human being having any ideas that might drastically change how we do something in this country, must be dangerous and socialistic.

I think the Democratic party would do well redefining liberalism as a positive instead of letting the conservatives, (who redefine this word long time ago now), paint them with the same brush over and over and making them defend instead of attack.

Toservez, that's a pretty good answer!
I just have a hard time thinking of Al Franken as a "Democrat" or "Liberal."
I mean if I were a liberal  or a registered Democrat I don't think I'd have very much in common with Al Franken.
It'd be kind of like Hillary Clinton running in the Republican party.
Something just seems out of place with it.

Al Franken is more representative of what a large number of Democrats believe their party should stand for.

He is very liberal.  He cares about the rights of women, the rights of minority, the rights of poor people, etc.

He believes we all pay taxes to promote the common weal.  He believes his government should provide for
it's citizenry.

If you take the last 6-7 years as an indication of what it means to be a Republican, Al Franken and the Democratic party are not becoming more Republican.  A large majority of people who belong to the Democratic party have viewed the party's slide to the middle in order to garner swing voters to be something they would rather did not happen.

Just me, etc.

Sinergy, I can't see Mit Romney running as a Democrat either.
I'm liberal about some things like Nat. Healthcare for all U.S. Citizens. And a few other issues as well but I just don't see Franken as "liberal" or a "Democrat."
He's waaaaaaaay beyond that!
And women and minorities already have rights. They've been fought for and won!
Al's a little late to the party on that!
Has he gone "conservative" and joined the Democratic party?
It's like when someone says that Jerry Falwell is a "conservative" or a "Republican." It just doesn't compute because he sooooooo far out there.
I mean he actually thinks that millions or is it "only" thousands of people, will be walking down the street and all of a sudden their whole bodies, not just their souls will be snatched up to heaven and that if you "don't believe like him" you won't be a "snatchee."
("Gee, I guess I won't be going to heaven! "I neglected to send Jerry Falwell a check.")
You'll be stuck here on the planet fuckin', fightin', and up to other hijinks and no good.("Hmmmmmm")
I mean think about it, do Republicans go around telling people nonsense like that?
I know Bush is full of shit!

Franken.......................<Bob Dylan>..(.Democrats...Republicans.)....................<Warren Buffet>...........

Falwell
I bet that since Franken and Falwell are so far out there they'd probably be best of friends if you got them in a bar and drunk one night.
"Hey Al, ...watch those black helocopters!!!! ha, ha, ha!"
Sure Jerry! But only if you stop wearing the Tin Foil hats you COCKSUCKER, you!" ("AHHHH,...this guy kills me!")
I know what they'd be comparing notes on too; more and better ways to sucker people out of money!

Fair enough.

Why do you believe Franken is way beyond that?

I would love to see your sources.

Sinergy, it's just my personal opinion, I don't have any "sources" just like I don't have any sources with Jerry Falwell.
He just seems to be "against" everything and "negative" just like Jerry Falwell.
God! I wouldn't want to hang out with either one of them!
(That's my "source",  I call it "The Hangout Quotient.""Now, would I want to hang out with that guy?"  "Yes or No?")
At that point what difference does it make if you call yourself "left" or right.?"
It's just personal observation I guess.
You'll notice that there's three dots between "Democrat" and "Republican" above.
I think that's where I stand politically.
I don't have anything in common with either one of them.
Since I'm not a Democrat I was curious as to what actual Democrats think of him.

SINERGY!!! I just thought of something!
What if you were one of Jerry Falwell's "snatchees" and you were in heaven, body and all and the ones in heaven didn't like you because; "He's got a body and we don't!"
I mean they could sneak up behind you all invisable and stuff because all they had "souls" and no "bodys" and kick you in the ass anytime they wanted, right?
See? Jerry Falwell's not telling the whole truth!
Or, they'd be laughing at you as you kept falling through clouds!

Just a little note; sorry. Al Franken is far better a canidate than Jean Bonet's father, who ran for the senate of Michigan,( I think it was MI, not sure). After all, Franken did not pimp out his daughter and have her die by accident, being fucked by.........

And lets face it, Franken is not body beautiful like the Gov. of California ..... credentials are The Termiator and body building contests.........Oh, and Warren Buffet.

Oh, I'm sorry; Marie said Arnie studied government at night. Doesn't help none to have been personal friends with the Bush family either.......and the Kennedys as well.

So, what's the beef with Al Franken, after all, Gary Coleman also ran for Gov of Calif. And.....then there is Jesse Ventura.

Give the guy a chance; after all Bonet ran for something.

I agree with Sinergy here. Al Franken & the Democrats are peas in a pod. I just can never understand why more Democrats don't scream from the mountain tops how they feel about things. You know they want to...

Who the hell wouldnt want the guy who protected Edward Furlong from Liquid Metal Guy as their
governor?

What is wrong with you people?

Sinergy

p.s.  I gained a lot of respect for him when he told the state legislature not to pay him.  I lost most of it when he went up against the unions at Karl Rove's behest, but now that he has been sent whining to his doghouse with his tail between his legs by the unions and citizens of California, I am back to enjoying having the Governator as my leader.

p.p.s. The cool thing about California is how little actual power our Governor has.  Want to do something, ask rabid liberal (and hard core supporters of their constituencies) nuthouse which comprises our state legislature for permission.

Dunno, I am not a democrat either.

Here in Nebraska Hagel is planning on running.  He seems to think he is a front runner because he has been outspoken on the war in Iraq.

Not a chance he would have a chance at winning....why waste our money like that?
