This is thread for anybody who would like to discuss or debate the existence of anything they might see as specious. =) Alternative medicine, paranormal, religion... you name it. Thoughtful, well-constructed arguments are a big plus, lol.

Here's a topic to consider: Astrology.. bogus or true? And why?

Caveat: All ideas and opinions subject to challenge.

Cheers,
Stella

--a full moon = more crime. i think it throws the gravity-off.; therefore triggering irregular behavior

What an interesting idea, Stella!

I have recently been a bit skeptical about the new paploma virus vaccine.  Given all the serious issues regarding the triple vaccine (mumps, measels, rubella) we are required to give children (and it's links to increased austism), I am more than a bit nervous about this vaccine and what a generation of vaccinations will produce in terms of side effects.

DomKen -> RE: The Skeptic Corner (3/8/2007 8:08:06 AM)

There is no correlation between vaccination (MMR in particular) and autism rates. This has been established by at least a dozen scientifically sound studies. Here is a popular article with some details:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,3604,1654477,00.html

What appears to be happening is that more autistic and especially high functioning autistics are being diagnosed and that status is being reported.

Off beat religions...always struck me as even more pathetic then the organized crud....But I have always wanted to nail a wiccan!  Any advice? Seems like they may not be that "clean" and have a pile of unnecessary hair.

Then there is that whole thing of keeping my job as a toad...there might be consequences.

Hmmm. Why would you think gravity has anything to do with our behavior? Why would the moon's gravity effect us psychologically, but not the earth's?

You know, the moon is always the same size. =) The full effect is just the reflection of the sun's light.

Stella

Hey, Puella. =)

I have no sources on hand regarding the autism/vaccination link. But Quackwatch.com is a great place to check something like that out. They have a ton of information about medicinal claims.
Are you personally against vaccination? Just curious. =)

The thing with the Moon has been around for a long time.  Luna (latin for Moon) is related to our word Lunatic.  One possible rational explanation for this in the past, was the lack of electric light.  People would be more inclined to be out at night and getting into mischief when there was a full bright moon( they could see).  I do not have a handy source, but have read that police and hospital records do not show any corelation to the phases of moon

Nailin' Wiccans is easy. Just throw on antlers and a loincloth, find the nearest bonfire to dance like an idiot around , and start naming EVERY goddess you can think of in a minute or less.

oh yeah.. don't forget the patchouli. Heh

That is correct, there is no hard evidence linking erratic behavior and the full moon. As far as I know, there's only anecdotes. Not the most reliable source around...

Hello Stella,

Not at all.  If it has no side effects, it is all good to me.  I have no qualms about vaccinating young girls.  I have no timorous faith issue which makes me panic that giving a kid a shot to prevent cancer will turn her into a nympho at age 11, hehe.

Haha! Yeah, who needs vaccines when we have Bratz dolls to sexualize our pre-teens, anyway? ;)

Hahaha!  Absolutely!

Patchouli oil, oh God, I can't stand that stuff!
Whenever I smell that on someone I think;... "low I.Q."

I am rather a tautology of speciousness, myself.

I havent found that wearing ( Patchouli oil ) relates to IQ, but more to the frequency of showering.
I have wanted to scrub up a few hippie chicks, but I'm not sure if it's because I like to play in the shower, or that they were cute and I wanted to "save" them in some way. lol

MsParados -> RE: The Skeptic Corner (3/8/2007 6:42:44 PM)

I read once that the theory behind the Lunar incidents was based on humans being 80% water and since the moon controls the tide, it would have effects on us too. interesting idea but just that.
I got one...... If man has been to the moon, how come no one has been back since? It's starting to make me really believe those conspirasy theory people, that it didn't really happen and was just to help hide money spent on Vietnam.

Might just be that added ambient light makes it easier to do illicit behavior at night without having to rely on
a flashlight...
