Private Viewings - 2/28/2007 7:27:43 AM

I've just noticed today that Collarme now has a "Who's viewing me" section.

How does everyone feel about this option? Personally, I'd prefer anonymity when I read another's profiles. Not that I'm wishing to be voyeuristic, nor am I ashamed of my profile or hiding, it's just that I'm feeling I'm not being given the option to introduce myself by choice. Collarme is doing that for me by displaying who I am merely because I'm reading a profile. I'm not particulary interested in who views my profile. Most likely, I'll not randomly read profiles anymore.

I know it's my "issue" but it bugs me a little.

Anyone else?

At first it made me slightly uncomfortable, but I thought about it and decided I just don't care. I think Collarme is trying to add an interesting feature, here, and this site is free of membership charges. I don't totally understand the reasons for this leap in technology but still - what is the implication really, if someone is veiwing your profile? I read profiles all the time, just because I am a curious person. I think it's okay to just peruse profiles. If someone really is interested in someone else, they write to them, period.

I have heard paired up submissives complain on this site time and again how many folks don't read their profiles and barrage them with e-mail seeking them as their "One" when they have made it clear from their profile that they are "taken." Maybe this will cut down on those occurrences?

I do think it could be construed many times as flattering, if someone is reading your profile, even if they are simply "just curious." I don't see it really, as threatening. I don't care if people read mine, and I will continue to read profiles. It means I want to know more about the person, but - it doesn't automatically follow that I'd want to "jump their bones."

Sometimes, when reading a thread, if I am having difficulty understanding someone else's perspective, it helps me to read their profile to see if I can maybe get a better clue "where they are coming from."

Also, when I first joined, I read them to get an idea of what a really well-written profile looked like - and there are some amazing ones out there, and doing that did help me.

But mostly, I read profiles simply because I am just curious about people in general.

I do wonder what the reactions might be from any potentially jealous Dominants who are paired to a submissive - but my guess is it will be the same (maybe less intense) as it is with how they react to their incoming e-mail.

I think it's kind of an interesting feature.

Does it keep track for an entire day?  Or is it just people who are viewing your profile when you are logged in to your profile?  Answers?

KatyLied: I am curious about what the time length is re: How long since they viewed your prolfile if they've been listed as doing so is, also. Good question.

It says recently viewed your profile....what is the definition of recent?

It doesn't bother me, it is no different than the favorites list.  Where you get people you've never spoken to and won't.  Never even heard before and all of the sudden they are watching you.
Nothing you can do but embrace the moment.  When someone from the forums visits your profile you know you've intriqued them enough to inquire.

Thank you for your responses Dawnreader, SusanofO and Ron.

Susan. I too am curious about others and enjoy reading profiles because it gives me insight into how they view life. I am not totally freaking out because of this new feature and I will probably continue viewing profiles. Mostly people who contribute to the message boards for the same reasons you've stated. To gain clarity of someone's statement.

Okay, I'll admit. Sometimes I view a profile because I find the author attractive. Yet, I'm not wanting to introduce myself, or place them in my favorites, yet I will be "exposed" more or less.

.I'm shy. And I don't like feeling that I'm invading someone space. I'll get over it I'm sure. I'm just not comfortable with it now.

With the responses here and on the other thread about this subject.... it seems the viewing feature is playing upon any feelings people already have about voyeurism/exhibitionism.

(i.e., "it bothers me more to be looked at than to be able to look," or "I don't care who looks at me")

my personal feelings about it are mixed

I am constantly looking at profiles of people who post here.  I just find people fascinating.  When I go to the home page, all of the straight male doms in Louisiana show up, because that's what my search criteria was.  It's usually the same ones over and over again, but now and then someone new pops up, so I go look just outta curiosity.

I'm sure there will be increases in emails because of this feature, especially one liners "thanks for viewing my profile".

Same here, particularly if the commentor has an opinion i highly admire or find objection to - then i really want to get an idea of who they are and why they said what they said. Now i guess those folks will know i checked them out! LOL!

Thats pretty handy, although you can view peoples profiles without logging into collarme (or collarchat) if you want to view it anonymously.

I agree mail may increase. For the men, who I hear receive less, it might be an ego boost to know people view their profile. For people who get no viewings, we could barrage them with profile viewings, if they let us know (don't want anyone feeling left out!)

IMO, if someone writes you a one-liner, I am not sure you're always obliged to answer it. I mostly delete those, unless they follow with at least a little more information. I have a Daddy anyway. I am not particularly prompt at answering mail, (apologies in advance) but if somebody writes one-line and that's all, well - I say custom one line "Thank you" is an okay response.

I rarely make catty remarks, but have to say (well I don't have to say it, but), perhaps this new feature will encourage those folks who cannot seem to have a descriptive profile to write one. If they have one that just says something like:

"Be my submissive and know what heaven is" and that's all it says! - just one line (or just very short. Skimpy on any detail whatsoever. You know the kind I am referring to) to actually learn how to write a profile - or at least give writing a profile more of a shot. Maybe not one write well - but how about just writing more, maybe?

There are some really good ones out there, to use as examples (not mine for sure, but they definitely exist).

My profile isn't fabulous but at least it's there. Know what I mean? I realize this is a totally selfish response based on my merely voyeuristic tendencies. Oh well. Sorry if I have offended anyone. I realize people may have other reasons to not write much on a profile - but - it can be valuable tool. A skimpy profile would not encourage me to write someone, if I was seeking a partner.

You can just type a person's nickname into the search function on the home page and see their profile from there in the "condensed" view.  The "who's viewing me" function only shows who had opened up and viewed your "full" profile.
