Forgot about this thread. Oooops. Ok. It is based on the 2003 kernel. It has several of the 2003 Server tools in it still, but they are unsupported and do not seem to work very well at this stage. I am having problems because if you try and log it into a domain it will, but it's functionality is seriously limited due to licensing. If you create a workgroup name the same as your domain it will share resources, but it will not see the domain computers to do backups and you can not initiate backups. You can access shared resources on the domain and vice versa, you just can not do a hell of a lot with them. Then to top it all off you can not add users to the server because you have to use a special interface to do it, and the user name has to be the same as the workgroup computers. It is quite stable at this point, but the thing of it is that if I can not back up any computer in the AD then I might as well just revert back to 2000 Server. The shares are cooky too. You change the default share name to a name you want to use, then it tells you that it is shared for administrative purposes and reverts back to the default share name on the next boot. .NET and everything is stripped out of it. In fact, most of those resources are stripped out of it. Picture it as a fancy tape backup box if you would, with the ability to access any of the files on the tape any time you want (for those of you who can recall the days of Colorado and Connor tape backups to share warez amongst the circle).
