Here's another scam text scenario.. As you all know, almost every day there is a new scam somewhere out there… What’s freaky is that lately more and more of these scams seem to involve cellular phones. Most recently, it looks like hackers have found a new way to lure computer users to maliciously rigged websites via text messaging on cell phones. This is the latest trick- to send SMS (short messaging service) alerts to mobile phones with a warning that the target has subscribed to an online dating service that racked up expensive charges on cell phone bills (now at this point you probably think… WHAT The F%$k???!!) The message also includes a URL for the user to unsubscribe to avoid the $2 per day charges. I heard from an anti-virus vendor that the URL points to a website rigged with Win32/Bambo.CF, a Trojan horse program used by identity thieves to hijack sensitive users…starting to get the idea?… then you will get to a website associated with the scam that has been set to entice targets into entering the phone number. At this point, it attempts to load an executable file called “unregister.exe.”and if this program succeeds to run, it installs the Trojan on your computer. This Trojan is basically a back door which opens two ports and allows the computer to be remotely controlled by malicious hackers. Of course, the motherf*@kers will then get access to everything on your computer including pictures, passwords, etc… Don’t say I didn’t warn you…
