http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/02/16/terror/main2488520.shtml

This little nugget just floated by:
quote:

Abdul Tawala Ibn Ali Alishtari, 53, of Ardsley, N.Y., pleaded not guilty in U.S. District Court in Manhattan to an indictment accusing him of terrorism financing, material support of terrorism and other charges.

Nailed us another suspected Terrorist Supporter!

quote:

Alishtari, also known as Michael Mixon, was detained pending a court appearance next week after Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan S. Kolodner said Alishtari was a danger to the community and a risk to flee.

Who goes by the name "MICHAEL MIXON"???

quote:

The indictment also charged him with wire fraud conspiracy and wire fraud.

Fraud, and Conspiracy too!

quote:

Alishtari gave $15,500 to the National Republican Campaign Committee between 2002 and 2004, according to Federal Election Commission records. That amount includes $13,000 in 2003, a year when he claims to have been named NRCC New York State Businessman of the Year.

Alishtari also claims to be a lifetime member of the National Republican Senate Committee's Inner Circle, ... all of whom hold a deep interest in our nation's prosperity and security."

Oh, Shit. I wonder how many other terrorists are hiding in the RNC?

It's no big deal to me that a terrorist was trying to disguise himself as a decent American, that should be expected. The real question to ME is, did they catch the guy because Republicans passed the Patriot Act? And if so, does that mean that Liberals think the guy should be set free...

Kinda amusing the mental gymnastics that Republicans will go to to try to convince the world that people who do illegal activities to support the Republican attempt to screw the world are the fault of liberals.

If this sort of thing helps you sleep at night, by all means keep it up.

You know, I was pretty tense about it when the Democrats did it.

Unlike you, I think it is reprehensible behavior when anybody does it, and I dont personally think that it is OK for Republican's to do it since I think Democrats did it first.

Just me, etc.

Why do people defend politicians by pointing out that the other party has corrupt politicians too? Have you ever heard of this expression? "When you have one finger pointed at someone else, you have three pointed at yourself". This is why I am an independent, I prefer not to be soiled by the hypocrisy.

I find it rather amusing that you would defend this by pointing out a democrat did the same thing, I would wonder if that approach would work in a murder trial? Why not say something such as, "I am more appalled when those whom I entrusted my support in show themselves unfit for it than when the other side shows the same behavior". I expect more from those I trust than those I do not... think about it

Having participated in the system, I have become jaded. Most politicians are less than admirable. Its ( almost) always about cash. Party affiliation doesnt matter.

"Unlike you, I think it is reprehensible behavior when anybody does it, and I dont personally think that it is OK for Republican's to do it since I think Democrats did it first."

Actually I want all of them held accountable, show me once where I have not held this position.
I believe that as a party the republicans are far more likely to dump a candidate for impropriety's no matter the cost. Ask Tom Delay. When was the last time the Dems asked any candidate to step down? Marion Barry -- nope  and there are dozens more.

Its about power, and right now the Dems are on the upswing. But power corrupts and Im sure over the next 2 years we'll see it rear its head on both sides.

Tom Delay had many Republicans shaking in their boots, I am sure more than a few were glad to see his ass go, but only because he had  crap to use over their heads, like whether or not they could get support from the RNC to get reelected... sometimes people hold power a little too ruthlessly, and the reason they were glad to throw him under the bus was because it was politically expedient.

I was pointing out that both sides hands are unclean.
Its still a leap to try and link the RNC with terrorists.
I've never met a politician that wouldnt take a check.

Its not a defense, hang'em all when you catch'em.

But the fact remains, there has been no DNC equivalent of that level of house cleaning.

You are so partisan, do you really hear yourself? Do you realize that it was the voters that cleaned house, not the GOP? We have not begun to hear about the corruption under the republican held congress! Now I am sure the Democrats will become just as corrupt if left to their own devices.. But I think it is a little disingenuous to talk about how pure the republicans are... I could produce link after link of ineptness, absenteeism, gerrymandering, voter fraud, lies, being in the pocket of big business, waste, and fraud committed by the GOP and the Bush White House... the very least you could do is stop trying to justify it by stating how the democrats are worse, because they just aren't.

I cannot stand any of them, most of the Democrats went along with the corrupt bastards to hang on to their seats on issues of war.. and that is why I voted Green last election

Yes I am partisan, just like you..

No Delay was forced out by the party.
But maybe your refering to the last election. The party opposite a sitting president usually loses seats. Remember the contract with america .

You still have failed to point out a DNC housecleaning of their own members

Please tune to CBS, CNN etc some time. They out republicans all the time.

Which party? Last election I voted half green, one democrat, and the rest libertarian... depending on the stance of who was running... I will not vote for those prowar... I would rather vote anything else but that.

Delay was convicted.. now you can ignore what the voters said about the corruption, do so at your party's peril.

This explains your views, I do not watch TV news unless I am with my mom.

I would rather do that than vote forcrooks that sent us to war based on lies, murdered American soldiers for the profit of oil companies and have flushed my son's generations future down the toilet... I think we have different agendas all right, your agenda is keep on supporting the bastards that ripped you off and fucked you. Keep doing what feels right to you, but frankly I have little respect for people that vote knowingly for politicians with no honor. I couldn't look at myself in the mirror if I did that, it would make me just as bad as them... and I am better than they are for a fact.

Less PATRIOT than FBI Snitch. The problem with snitches, is that they lie by definition.

Um, not to nitpick here but $15.500 over two years is hardly considered a MAJOR contributer.

MAJOR would be Landmark Legal Foundation, or George Soros.

Both sides are corrupt, care more about special interests, and do/say whatever it takes to keep their jobs.

To ignore Democrat misdeeds while ripping on Republicans for being corrupt is a wee bit disingenuous at best, and blind partisanship at worse.
