Yeah, I can see that happening.  I'm much more likely to notice someone who's a bit grubby than someone's who's sparkly clean and just pressed.  I mean, seriously, how much fun can someone have when they're worried about wrinkling their shirt?  I'm pretty rough around the edges, so its probably just a matter of being attuned to similarities.

Grubby can work.  I remember the summer my house was built.  The young bricklayers.  Sculpted muscles, sweat, no shirts on.  "Would you like some water?"

You sure they're not "I'd like to take that home and clean it up!?" type looks?

In my experience, from both personal relationship and from asking this question to female friends, there's something about a man who looks like he's been involved in hard physical labor that women find attractive. Granted, if you come home looking like you've been working on a drilling rig, completely saturated in mud and oil, I don't think you're going to get much of a positive response, but a little grease, a little sweat and dirt has created some interesting responses for me before.

I personally tend to prefer neat and clean men... not overly dressed up, more the casual European look about them gets me going ... but I deifinitely wouldn't use a word like "grubby" to describe what would catch my eye, for sure.

I guess, for me, I do not particularly appreciate people looking too grubby in stores, restaurants, etc.,  At the very least they should be clean. IMO, it just shows that they don't care about themselves.

With that said though, I guess it would depend on the time/place/what degree of grubbiness?

Say, I saw on a Sunday afternoon somebody in a ripped and stained t-shirt, sweatpants that look like they should never leave your house, unshowered, unshaved and say, in a mall? I would probably wouldn't look, but rather look away like "what was he thinking?" And start looking around for the people from "What Not To Wear" to jump out from a corner or someplace. Or assume they were sick and were out for the afternoon... definitely, not think they were hot.

However during the work week,  in a supermarket/restaurant, etc.,  a handsome guy who looks like he just put in a hard days work as a firefighter or in construction with some dirt and sweat and smelling all of pheremones... well, that's another story.  I probably would still not get all glazed over or anything, well... mmm.... depends on how good look ing they are.... LOL.  But, then, I would at least understand the grubbiness... they came from work and I would have respect for them.

So, in conclusion (I know, I'm long-winded), it depends on the grubbiness and the circumstances. But, for me, if they were someone that "caught my fancy" I'd be thinking "I would like to give that man a bath!".

I couldn't resist... everyone is different,  but, when I read the above, all I could think about was to me, that's part of the fun! I love it when my Master (who is a rather "sparkly clean" kinda guy in general) tell me to undress him and place his clothes neatly over a chair/in a closet, etc   hehehe

that "Brawny" man fantasy comes to my mind after reading the original post.  anyway, i like the scruffy look (unshaved, stubble etc) as well as the clean-shaved, sharp dressed man. both are hot and sexy however if you've haven't showered for days, yuck!

I love it when my Daddy has not shaved for the day and he rubs his whiskers against me and wears an old tshirt and shorts with his flip flops.... MMMMMMMMM. In fact sometimes he intentionally does not shave so he can rub his face on me... sighs

I wish I had an answer for you, I guess some people just like that scruffy look.

I experience the same phenomenon on those days when I just throw on, what I consider, roll out of bed extreme leisure garb to run a quick errand.  It  seems guys are a bit more flirtatious with me when I look unkept.  I'm like what gives (more like wtf).  It just baffles my mind.

Rosa

PS, my kind of unkept is different than what a country bumpkin might define as unkept.

Magirl, what's the "casual European look?"
Oh, I was listening to The Howie Carr Show online yesterday and it seems that your new Governor, Deval "De Value" Patrick instead of using the Ford that Gov. Mitt Romney used had the state lease him a brandnew Cadillac to the tune of $1,166 of your taxdollars each month!
And remember how Gov. Jane Swift caught hell for using a state police helocopter? Devalue is using one now!
People are bullshit about this guy! He cuts different state budgets then wants to fly in helocopters and lease brandnew Cadillacs!
Back to grubby.
The other day I was in the supermarket and there was this big fat woman in spandex.
As she was walking the back of her ass looked like a sack of cats headed for the river.

I get all sorts of attention if I don't shave...maybe a little hungover...Or if I am dressed in a way that would provide the illusion that I am capable of hard work.....I've had women approach me and "chat me up."....I have found that it usually seals the deal if I mention that ..."I haven't wiped for a few days."

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.

Grubby men are sexy. Very sexy. *purrs* I'm going to go back to my fantasies about Valyraen after he's changed the oil in the cars...
