I finally decided to make my own computer business part time and go to work for someone else. I met with an agency to seek my new career path. Well today an agent called me and said they had a listing to pursue. It is with a competitor. I emailed a resume to them and within an hour they called me back to set up an interview for next Monday. I'm ecstatic. Less pay, but I'm more than qualified for the position. They tutor people on computers. I taught computers in a grade school and tutored natives for a government agency. They do spyware and virus removal. The majority of my residential clients needed that service and I've been doing it for quite a few years, since spyware first surfaced, and virus removal before that. They help people to learn how to protect themselves and use the latest tools. I'm familiar with pretty near every major tool on the market and have utilized or deployed nearly all of them. They do harddrive recovery, something I do myself, so I'm familiar with all the techniques and tools. They do network design, deployment and admin. Something I have done for SMBs for 7 years now and I have my own reasonably hefty network to boot. Yes, I went and read up on their rather hideous looking website. Everything they do is stuff I have done throughout the course of my career. Unless I seriously blow my interview I can't see why I wouldn't have a job. I have the education, the experience, the flexibility, the knowledge, the analytical, logical thinking required to diagnose. I have the charisma to pander to these people, even the moronic clients. I honestly believe that I'll get this job. I had two interviews in the last half a dozen years. The one, I impressed the hell out of the President of a multi-million dollar corporation, the other I impressed the owner of a chain of computer stores. The only reason I didn't get that job was because he ended up selling the location I wanted to the neighboring flower shop because the earnings were in the red. He wanted me if he could find a partner to buy into it, but after seeing the books noone would. I also impress my clients, because the referrals speak for themselves. The advertising has proved virtually useless, but the word of mouth has brought me good money. So I guess I can do something right eh? lol Anyways, wish me luck. I'm very excited about this and it's exactly what I need. It's only part time for now so I'll have time to run my own business as well. I just won't tell them because I don't think they'd be too happy about that. mwahahaha.
