Cafe du Monde has my vote....last time I was there was in 1964...Decature st. is quite a drive from where I live(yes I know they sell it in a can but then where is the view of Jackson square and the smell of wet pavement) so I will just savor my memories. In the meantime I will continue to drink Trader Joe french roast espresso...black no sugar.

The inherent problem with the Senseo is the fact that the pods must contain pre-ground coffee, which is by definition very far from fresh since it has been ground for more than 45 minutes. Some folks have reported being able to hack coffee pods so that they can replace the contents with good fresh product. If you like the way the Senseo brews, may I suggest trying this?

Mmm, Sidamo. If it's properly roasted and brewed fresh, the blueberry notes are incredible. If Uncommon Grounds isn't over-roasting like a lot of places do, then I'm sure it's coming out amazing.

I strongly recommend Counter Culture Coffee. They usually have Sidamo (among other fantastic varietal offerings) and they do cheap shipping of some fucking amazing and absolutely FRESH product. http://www.counterculturecoffee.com If you have never had a FRESH cup of coffee, fresh roasted and properly ground no more than a few minutes before brewing, you've really never had coffee.

What scares me is that very few coffee merchants put roast dates on their bags, and almost all the coffee shops pre-grind. This is tantamount to not putting dates on meat or milk, except that you won't die or get sick if you drink out of date coffee. You'll just be drinking stale coffee, which most people accept since they've never even tasted the truly fresh product. Imagine a coffee that tastes as good as it smells and you'll have an idea of what it is supposed to be like in your mouth, but rarely is.

Let me say this one more time so the rest of the world gets a clue: COFFEE IS A FRESH PRODUCT AND IT GOES STALE. DRINK IT WHILE IT IS FRESH. You have about two weeks maximum on the roasted whole bean and 45 minutes absolute maximum on the ground stuff before the volatile oils oxidize and substantially degenerate the flavor profile. Green coffee keeps for many months, which is why I buy it green and roast it myself when I'm ready to drink it. Basically the people who sell coffee via the usual distribution chains don't really want you to know this so that you will keep buying their stale products. But there you are, it's the simple truth.
