Thought I would start a serious thread....Just walked in the door and the news was on and it showed footage of the CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter that crashed on Feb 7th Killing 7 Americans on board....In the video it does appear if some sort of projectile can be seen striking the helicopter.

The video was issued by the Islamic State in Iraq, an umbrella group of Iraqi insurgent groups that includes al-Qaida in Iraq. The group on Wednesday issued a written claim of responsibility for the craft's downing and had promised a video would follow.
The video, titled "the Hell of Christians and Apostates in Iraq," was posted on a Web forum where the group and other Islamic militants often post messages.
The Islamic State in Iraq has also claimed responsibility for downing two other U.S. helicopters - a Black Hawk which crashed northeast of Baghdad on Jan. 20, killing 12 Americans, and an Apache shot down Feb. 12, in which two U.S. soldiers died.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the Governments account of the crash.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 9, 2007 – A Marine Corps CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter that went down in Iraq’s Anbar province Feb. 7 most likely experienced a mechanical failure, the director of operations for the Joint Staff told Pentagon reporters today.

Army Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute said early indications show the crash, which killed seven crewmembers and passengers, resulted from a mechanical malfunction.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If the cause of the helicopter was an enemy attack...How do you account for the Government's report of the event?

I have a bias as many do out here about this war.....But thought that I would post without too much partisan hoopla and let you all wrestle with the "Whys" and the "Hows" of this tragedy.

Well to be fair, it wouldnt be the first time a terrorist group would take responsibility for something they didn't do. Downing a US chopper is a nice trophy to brag about in the militant Islamic world.

I dont think there is enough information.

It is all really a conspiracy.  There is no Iraq, there are no helicoptors.  It was all staged in a sound stage at NASA, like the lunar landing.

Hiram Johnson (1866-1945)   'The first casualty, when war comes, is truth'

The above quote hits the nail on the head and I wouldn't believe anyone when it comes to war and least of all my own side. Very few wars are fought for justice and freedom, most are fought for corrupt politicians and special interest groups that pay them.

Well of course, Stern.  You see, our country is imperfect, and therefore, the most evil thing on the planet.  Our troops can't be worth a shit, because they were sent by a President the enlightened didn't vote for.  It's all one big fucking Roadrunner cartoon.

It's not like the price and availability of oil have anything to do with our economy and way of life or anything.  They can't get laid, dammit, so everybody should DIE!

Meat - when the RAF plan with all the british special forces crashed in Iraq didn't they start by saying is coudln't have been shot down because there wasn't the technology in the insurgency, but later it cam out that it porbably had been shot down?

Low technology forces have always found a will and a way to aquire some weapons to take out the impregnable forces of the oposition, it just depends on whether the number of times they do it, as to whether it will affect the outcome of the war.

If the tape is the actual footage of the event...The Govt obviously knows that it was shot down....What is the purpose of the "cover up?"...To show the illusion of peace being restored?  To protect the American public? Not to embolden the terrorists further....It does piss me off!

Reminds me of the Pat Tillman cover up and other bullshit that has come along with this war.....Why not just admit the facts and let the chips fall.....

our country is imperfect?

Thats a great way to sum up hundreds and thousands of dead dying so you can drive your suv.  For what? 30 - 35 years worth left?  10 trillion bucks coulds have bought every driver in the us a new electric combo car!

Lets do china next since we are imperfect anyway we have a good excuse.

yo - its all going to crap, deal.

See, what i never got is how ppl can say "oh no, xyz happened and our gov is doing qrt and i cant BELIEVE IT"

i honestly would be more suprised if the Gov did the right thing, was honest and fought an honorable war.  I'd be suprised if our troops actually fought for OUR freedom, defended our liberty, and were there to make our lives better.

i'd be suprised if some one died for a just and honorable reason.  I'd also be suprised if the News started covering postive things and i'd be suprised if everyone up on Capitol Hill took the sticks out their asses and really cared about the american public.

i'd be really suprised if everything stopped being about money and started being about the right thing.

But heck, if that happened........

but American soldiers shot down and the Gov is covering up?  Did i miss something??????  Did something different, new, suprising happen?  Or is it all the same old same old?

i wonder sometimes where people have been all their lives?  Are they all just starting to wake up?  Does it really have to be this blatant for others to realise things?  More blatant?

Whats next - is some one going to create a post (no offense Domiguy) that some one was killed today?  No shit!  My god, lets start posting about every car accident that happens......... AND Then, lets get folks to get all upset about the car crash and lets get up in arms....

p.s. domiguy this isnt directed at you - just at the general feeling i get from others about politics.

anyone ever heard the song....... "thats just the way it is?"

You cannot fight an honorable war built on a foundations of lies, deceit and fraud.

You cannot fight an honorable war built on a foundations of lies, deceit and fraud. You don't fight honorable wars, you ensure that after victory the suvivors and your own historians ensure you write it up as an honorable war.
