Thought I would start a serious thread....Just walked in the door and the news was on and it showed footage of the CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter that crashed on Feb 7th Killing 7 Americans on board....In the video it does appear if some sort of projectile can be seen striking the helicopter. The video was issued by the Islamic State in Iraq, an umbrella group of Iraqi insurgent groups that includes al-Qaida in Iraq. The group on Wednesday issued a written claim of responsibility for the craft's downing and had promised a video would follow. The video, titled "the Hell of Christians and Apostates in Iraq," was posted on a Web forum where the group and other Islamic militants often post messages. The Islamic State in Iraq has also claimed responsibility for downing two other U.S. helicopters - a Black Hawk which crashed northeast of Baghdad on Jan. 20, killing 12 Americans, and an Apache shot down Feb. 12, in which two U.S. soldiers died. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the Governments account of the crash. WASHINGTON, Feb. 9, 2007 – A Marine Corps CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter that went down in Iraq’s Anbar province Feb. 7 most likely experienced a mechanical failure, the director of operations for the Joint Staff told Pentagon reporters today. Army Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute said early indications show the crash, which killed seven crewmembers and passengers, resulted from a mechanical malfunction. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If the cause of the helicopter was an enemy attack...How do you account for the Government's report of the event? I have a bias as many do out here about this war.....But thought that I would post without too much partisan hoopla and let you all wrestle with the "Whys" and the "Hows" of this tragedy.
