Devilslilsister -> Pizza (2/9/2007 4:30:24 PM)

Okay, so i'm sitting here ...... ok so i just sat down..... contemplating when the excat, right time to put the pizza in the oven.  Cant remember how long it takes him to get here from his new house.  45 min? Hour?  Its got to be warm, but not scolding hot.  Right?  Right.

So anyways, i'm contemplating pizza.  Reminded me of a debate that i got highly frustrated in.  Some one told me Pizza was HEALTHY.  I of course, dutifully notifed my friend that pizza is not healthy and if it has any merrit its like a lake.

When it comes to nutrition, pizza is like a half empty lake and if you are going to go waterskiing - you pick a lake that is absolutetly full.  Hence, pizza is not healthy.  Its more like a 3/4's empty lake, but for the sake of argument i'm willing to bump it up to 1/2 empty.

Course my friend got caught up on my analogy and thought the weed's i had been picking from Master's lawn did something to my brain. (i think its a GREAT analogy so ::sticks out tongue::)

But anywho, is pizza healthy or not?

gooddogbenji -> RE: Pizza (2/9/2007 4:33:03 PM)

Depends on the pizza.

If you eat a real italian pizza, with it's crunchy crust, little cheese, and nice toppings, then it's as healthy as a sandwich with similar toppings.

If you go to Pizza Pizza every day, then no.

Yours,

benji

pizza healthy or not?

not a Chicago thick deep dish pizza - yummy!!

BRNaughtyAngel -> RE: Pizza (2/9/2007 4:55:02 PM)

I don't know if it's healthy, but I just cheated on my low carb diet and had a few slices of thin crust, light sauce with blk/grn olives, shrooms, ham, pepperoni, onions and anchovies!!!  Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

On second thought, it's healthy cuz anchovies are high in Omega 3 fatty acids, so that makes it healthy.  [8|]

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. [:)]

Devilslilsister -> RE: Pizza (2/9/2007 5:17:06 PM)

mmmmmmmmm i havent had shrooms on my pizza since i was much much younger.  U havin fun yet?

UtopianRanger -> RE: Pizza (2/9/2007 5:42:50 PM)

Hello RG....

I think if you do like Benji said and get the thin crusted, New York style pizza with quality ingredients you’re more than okay. The frozen stuff is crap....regardless of what they say on TV.
Go to a place with fresh, organic ingredients and house-cured meats.

Not THOSE kinda shrooms......... baby portabello shrooms.  I don't do mind altering substances, other than the occasional margarita or two or three.  Oooooooooo a margarita sounds good right now.

Tried the "Amy's" frozen pizza? It does not suck.

( Health food aisle freezer )

BRNaughtyAngel -> RE: Pizza (2/9/2007 5:48:56 PM)

My favorite frozen pizza is the California Kitchen White Pizza.  Major yummy!

BRNA

If you have Round Table Pizza restaurants in your area they have a lower carb "Skinny Crust" available. As do some other places here in So Cal. Might try looking at the local places websites to see if  they offer an alternative crust.

Personally I go in and just ask to purchase the dough and take it home to make my own. Still haven't been able to make a good crust out Soy flour that I like yet.

To the OP...I would go with relatively healthy, depending on the toppings it can cover all of the major food groups. Well except for chocolate.

I don't think we have those here SDFD.  But this was just a lil' hormonal detour from my diet.  I did get the thin crust, so it wasn't a whole lotta bad stuff. [&:]

Okay, i don't know if it's because i've never waterskiied, or what, but that analogy is completely beyond me [&:]

Pizza can't be healthy, because it tastes good.

And Digiorno garlic bread crust pizza is actually pretty darned good for frozen stuff... it's in the oven right now *yum*

That may be because the only reason for soy flour to be found in a kitchen is to kill rats.

KenDckey -> RE: Pizza (2/9/2007 7:48:11 PM)

I have had Pizza in many countries.   The best pizza in the world is in Montecatini Terme Italy (about half way between Pisa and Florence).  Cooked in a small wood fired oven.    mmmmmmmmmmmmm

sub4hire -> RE: Pizza (2/10/2007 1:45:09 PM)

Who cares if pizza is healthy or not?  Its good from time to time.  My favorite is veggie pizza.
We have a place close to this house...the pizza is literally an inch thick with toppings.
One piece and you're satisfied for the day.

sensualmagirl -> RE: Pizza (2/10/2007 1:52:55 PM)

~fast reply~

To some pizza purists, this might not fly, but trying to eat high-fiber/meaningfull carbs, I love this pizza place in Boston and RI called "pizza-pie-er" they have multi-grain and whole wheat doughs... You build your own pizza from the crust up: Pick the dough, pick the sauce, and pick the toppings.... mmmmm.... to bad I'm making chicken for dinner.... [;)]

gypsygrl -> RE: Pizza (2/10/2007 2:03:45 PM)

A meaningful carbohydrate?  As opposed to an empty carb?  That ideas way appealing to me because I worry excessively about carbs.  In fact, I may worry more about carbs more than anything else in my life.  And, it suggests a whole new analogy.  :)

To the OP: As far as food goes, Pizza's kind of neutral.  A lot depends on the quality of the ingredients and if its a part of an otherwise balanced diet.  But, you were right to argue with your friend because, most people don't have 'otherwise balanced diets' or use quality ingredients.  And, arguing passes the time.  Especially if you're comparing pizza to lakes.  :)

I had pizza for lunch.
