No idea, Caitlyn. Doves are a typical Manchester sound and easily the most distinctive in Britain. When you hear a band here, you instantly know if they're from Manchester. Heavily influenced by the Irish, half of the city is Irish in origin. Half of The Smiths band had Irish parents - hence, songs like "Irish Blood, English Heart".
I would say the sound can not be put in the bracket of new wave, it's more English/Irish/Manchester - quite unique.
