USS New York, she's a beauty.

It was built with 24 tons of scrap steel from the World Trade Center.
It is the fifth in a new class of warship - designed for missions that
include special operations against terrorists. It will carry a crew of 360
sailors and 700 combat-ready Marines to be delivered ashore by helicopters
and assault craft.

Steel from the World Trade Center was melted down in a foundry in Amite,
LA to cast the ship's bow section. When it was poured into the molds on
Sept. 9, 2003, "those big rough steelworkers treated it with total
reverence," recalled Navy Capt. Kevin Wensing, who was there. "It was a
spiritual moment for everybody there."

Junior Chavers, foundry operations manager, said that when the trade center
steel first arrived, he touched it with his hand and the "hair on my neck
stood up." "It had a big meaning to it for all of us," he said. "They
knocked us down. They can't keep us down. We're going to be back."

Now wouldn't be really fitting...if the men from this ship captured Bin Laden.

Yeah, it would be nice if they got that bacon eater.

It's a pity the steel wasn't used to build a hospital ship or something which would seem more fitting rather than another symbol for projecting American power overseas which was the reason people hated America enough to mastermind 9/11.

Meat, I think they should have used that steel to make bombs and bullets to kill al qeada with. After they soak them in pig grease.
Terrorists never win. If Bin Laden's still alive do you think he sleeps well at night knowing that he can be caught or killed at anytime of the day or night?

It is bin Laden this time but it will be someone else next time. The west sees itself as guiltless in its exploitation of other cultures and its victims as aggressors. The west really needs to cure itself of this double think.

I still say someone should sneak in there one night, breach the hull and have the loose pieces tested for traces of thermite [8D]

There are many who believe that Bin Laden is the best enemy that money can buy.

HydroMaster -> RE: This is very fitting...and it is us. (2/8/2007 3:01:42 PM)

That is the coolest thing I've seen today.  The building they brought down is going to go bite them in the ass.  It's beautiful.

Power is there to be used.  Build the hospitals out of wood and brick.  Save the steel for our new battle toys.  He he, offspring of military family.  Explosions and jet fuel are in my blood and I wouldn't want it any other way.  Yet somehow I ended up in psychology...weird.

Maybe you prefer other people to risk their asses while you carve yourself a nice career?

Be a little pointless I'm afraid.

Breaking into a military base is not the smartest move possible in this day and age, and the steel has been completely smelted, so there will be traces of sod all except anything smelted into the mix for forging and casting.

HydroMaster -> RE: This is very fitting...and it is us. (2/8/2007 3:34:16 PM)

Ooh, do I detect a bit of hostility.  Is anger all you have in your life?  I never said I wasn't in the military.  I said I ended up in psychology...then again I never said I was.  I'll just let you chew on it for a while.  And I went into social work so you can drop the nice career crap.

LOL I'm pissing myself. I spent a few years working with those self declared martyrs, those selfless do gooders. Social workers are social workers because they are otherwise unemployable and now there is one who believes in illegal wars. Hell, I always knew social workers were hypocrites but you take the biscuit.
