And I ain't 23 anymore....

Every day I read about someone who I knew...either in my age group, or in some level of well known somebody...(I'm 48).

I used to think it was weird that my Grampa used to read the obits (every day), now my Dad does....I haven't fallen to that as yet...

But, every day there's some headline about someone I grew up with dying, or some pop star dying...and I'm thinking..."but he/she was only....(x years old)".

Some are due to drugs...young...some are due to age, and I just never realized they were actually that old...and now I'm starting to realize....I'M OLD!!!!!

WTF, over?????

I haven't started reading the obits...but I am starting to think...maybe my time is running out!

I'm not ready to go yet DAMMIT!!!!!

I just started making sense out of this whole damn thing....

Youth is TRULY wasted on the young!

Someone re-set the clock.

I'm ready to start over.

I read the obits, it began as a way to just track my parents friends and parents of friends. Then it began to be a way to track old friends and schoolmates. Ugh.
No wise words,no pithy words.
Life happens while we keep waiting for it to start. It started & eventually ends..don't blink.

If you really want to dive into reality.. make list of all those people you knew who have now passed.

Some of the people I grew up with died in their 20s, auto accidents, suicides, one murder, drug overdose, cancer.... I have not heard of anyone that I know of lately having passed away.

My father died at 46, but he was not supposed to make it to adulthood. Because he did, he met and married my mom, survived 2 experimental open heart surgeries, and they had 4 kids... so sometimes what seems like a short life was actually an extended one. God I wish he was here still, he would be 71. But I am grateful for the time I had with him.

I lost five family members and a friend last year.  It hit and it hit hard.  I agree with you - reset the clock!

as a child I thought as a child---

I remember when the seniors in high school put on a play for us when we were in fourth grade----
I was awestruck and knew I would never be there

now, I have shoes older than some people here looking to master others, and I sound like my grandfather or something sometimes.....

some kid asking how many icecubes you can stick up your ass---
well, when your young, I think a couple trays, but you shouldn't be habitual about it, because shit creeps up on you, and you turn out to be the old, nasty grey haired bald headed fat fucker that used to ick you, and you are only 29........

LOLOLOL,
If a man live, it is a certainty he will die, this is discussed on the Gorean Forums often-------------

So, forget what's in your meat wallet---what's carved on your gravestone?

My best friend from HS was cremated a few days ago. I have a book I reallllllly wanted him to read. The book is by the door still. It feels like if I shelve the book, I shelve him. (why does the 'e' look odd on shelve?).
Few folks know when or how they will die. Barring accident or injury I do know. I am totally unable to decide if it is a good thing to probably know, or if it is a bad thing.
I am overly tired & saying things I ought not to set free but if I could just tell or somehow make people believe I would want them to literally live each day.
Don't just exist while you can still do things.
Existing is for when you cannot really live anymore.

Ug i hate mortality.

i asked my mother the other day if its hard to get old.  i think of my grandma in her 80's and its such a mind frag.  To be that old and realise your life is BEHIND you.  Ugggggggggggggggggggggg.  My mother asked me what the alternative was...... i think i'd rather be dead then 80 and contemplating how life was behind me and over and i'm on death row waiting for death to roll around.  Mortality is a mind frag.

i'm hoping when i'm 80 i'll be some where, where it wont matter.  With my ranch/farm in some beautiful country, waking up every morning to the sun rising and going out and taking care of my garden/animals.  If i can have the beauty of the earth every day......... it might not be so bad.

Not sure how to make it from here to 80 though.  Every birthday is a new mind frag.  Maybe i can keep myself busy by traveling the world and exploring new places.

i want to go to Istanbul.

Indeed, they are. A friend's mother died this morning. She was 82, though.

I too have wondered when one starts reading them. Is it something you decide one day, or does it just sort of happen?

On a more up note (yet bittersweet).. I've been at the bedside attending two deaths, my aunt and my sister-in-law..  And with each one..I was the last person they said "I love you" to.

In return, I was the last person they heard say "I love you" to them.

It was an honor I'll never forget :)

My mother's response is always "beats the alternative"

She was kinda pissy when my oldest unmentionable was born.  Apparently she is ok with getting old but being a grandmother pissed her off.

My dad didn't like thinking about my sister being pregnant until his mom looked at him and said "I was younger than you were when I became a grandparent. Deal with it."

Sometimes I think I'm lucky that I have yet to have someone close to me die. At other times, I think it's just gonna make that first one all the more horrible.

I read the orbituaries almost every day.  Most of the people that i know that i see there were friends of my parents, but occasionally there is a friend of mine.  My HS graduating class had 26 and so far i know of 3 that have passed on, all from cancer.

They say wisdom begins at 40..(whoever "they" are).

I watched two movies this week. The Deer Hunter and The Devil Wears Prada, both starring Meryl Streep. The first was made when she was really young, the second recently. It made me stop and think for a sec how time flies...

Sounds like you're coming into your mid-life crisis  (hope you aren't with a partner you're gonna leave for a younger woman to help you feel young again *chuckle*)

Master has been feeling stuff like that recently, He does martial arts and he is starting to acknowledge he can't do things he used to do without really paying for it, he keeps telling me how old he is.

I saw today that Frankie Laine the singer in the 1950's died today at the age of 93.
And a couple of weeks ago a friend of mine's father died at 96.
