recalcitrant - marked by stubborn resistance to authority; "the University suspended the most recalcitrant demonstrators" defiant, noncompliant - boldly resisting authority or an opposing force; "brought up to be aggressive and defiant"; "a defiant attitude. I'd not heard it before. I thought maybe others would like to see it too. As words and terms seem to matter so much in this BDSM world, I'm surprized I've not seen this word used. suzanne

LOL my first master used recalcitrant on me all the time. I wouldn't consider it synonymous to "topping from the bottom" though. Plenty of doms can be recalcitrant and non compliant.

Not all topping from the bottom takes this form. It can be much more subtle than defiance. Sometimes the dominant is unaware it is even happening

I always thought that Topping from the bottom was a form of manipulation or control. For example acting in an inappropriate manner to achieve pain through punishment or attention.

There are relationships that function well with direct topping from the bottom. What I mean by this is that the bottom and the top have agreed to the bottom giving direction to the top. It is not a manipulation in every circumstance. Now it would not go over very well in my dynamic, but I have no value judgment on what other people choose to do, if it works for them and they are happy, well it is all about the happiness, isn't it?

It doesn't have to be a bad thing, but it is a form on control example, a bottom my control the actions of a top in a SM scene. She has is manipulating him or controlling him in a negative fashion but is indeed controlling his action.

I'm recalcatrant if you mean I will dig in my heels. Telling me "the sky is green and I am the dom so it must be true" will get me to defy you. Authority or not, if I know you are wrong I'm not going to lie and say you're right. I will however be oh so happy to prove you wrong. As far as tftb, it's just information. Telling him my right nipple is too sore to touch anymore because you've been focusing only on it is info. It isn't a demand that he move to the left one or change to spanking me. It's just info that the right one can't take anymore.

I also associated those behaviours as mental conditions. I have a tendency to do this out of gut reaction. Trust me i am far from topping from the bottom. It is just a condition where i need to be comfortable before i just follow. Now i have been called a bitchy bottom...lmao, but that is because i am a brat.

When mine tops from the bottom, the word for him is "bored" because I stop and walk away.... I find that leaving him alone, by himself, with nobody to play with cures him of the action.

I don't think those words describe topping from the bottom, per se. I'm defiant and stubborn sometimes because I don't want to do something and sometimes because I'm apprehensive about doing something. I am not defiant and stubborn to elicit any particular behaviour or outcome from M. If I WANTED to manipulate him, I wouldn't choose that route. agirl
