I'm going to be a bit self congratulatory and say that earlier on this board I defended the Colts defense, attributing its falloff to injuries. When those injured players returned, the IND defense proved more than playoff caliber.

As I understand it, though, the Colts look to have some serious cap issues going into 2007, so this year's team probably will not return intact.

I've let the Colts go. Its counterproductive to begrudge IND its football or the current team and staff its just rewards, but the moving resentment could have been avoided had Robert Irsay given up the Colts name. He didn't want to do that, because he thought his money bought the Baltimore Colts and the organization's previous glory. That arrogance and his general asshole self are certainly a one man stain, and it is illustrative of capitalist heartlessness where one person can essentially thumb his nose at a fan base, city, and history.

Sometimes a drunken, selfish, heartless rube puts his stamp on human affairs --- and it just ends up being something everyone else needs to live with.

The son (Jim) isn't cut from the same cloth, nevertheless, he did refuse to sell the name and colors back to Baltimore. Hence there is and will continue to be a persistent incongruity between the Baltimore and Indianapolis Colts --- and the homelessness of such players a Lenny Moore, John Unitas, Art Donavon, Bubba Smith, Jim Parker, and Bert Jones.

Robert Irsay spit in those player's eyes and was unrepentant about it. "Its my damn ballclub and I'll do what I want with it," he said.

Well, he proved everyone right with that statement.

cloudboy....You cited more facts than I am even aware of. To be honest, when the Colts came to Indy I didn't think that much of it, sounded like a business deal to me, but I do recall there was quite a bit on controversy over the "stealing" of Baltimore's team. I guess that's why I never really jumped on the bandwagon and became a big fan, although I have heard Peyton Manning speak in public at a "Success 2000" seminar and I was really impressed with the guy. Had they lost last night, my day would have been the same today, but I was happy for the team as it now exists to get the win that no doubt many of the players worked hard to acheive. Years ago I lived in Nebraska and was a Nebraska Cornhuskers (College) fan... hell you didn't have a choice...lol. I went to several games and it was a blast to be with the team that kicked the crap out of the opposition. But alas, a couple decades ago I moved back to Indiana and Tom Osborn is now no longer the coach there, nor is his arch rival, Barry Switzer in Oklahoma. But those were the days when I gave a damned about football, it was a blast...I doubt I will ever have those feelings again, even if my state does have the reining champs just down the road. In any event though...Congrats to the Colts...even with an embarrassing start in the game, they did come back and prove why they earned their way there.
