Ok, this may seem strange, but here it goes.
I tan every day in the winter, my doctor recommended it for depression and anxiety (really).  I get light tan lines, which is normally not a problem.  My man loves them and they don't bother me.
So here's the problem.  I just got accpeted as a Suicide Girl and I have a feeling they aren't going to be so keen on my tan lines.  Is there any way to get rid of the tan quickly and go back to my normal pasty whiteness?

I'm not sure about reverse tanning, I'm about as pale as it is possible for a human to get and not be dead, so I've never really thought about it. [:D] I just wanted to say congratulations on being a Suicide Girl, that's awesome! I love that website, its such a great showcase of gorgeous, non barbie doll looking women. Good for you!

Ask Michael Jackson.

I am sure Michael Jackson has some good pointers.

Indeed they do.

Other than bathing in bleach or peroxide, and I don't recommend either one, my best guess would be to avoid sunlight. Kind of obvious, but not very helpful. My next guesses would be to either try to quickly get an even tan, or to ask a Goth. They seem to have the pasty look down to an art.

Make up

luckydog1 -> RE: How to get rid of a tan (2/1/2007 7:51:47 PM)

You can get lightening cream.  It is a form of skin bleaching though.  It is used to get rid of freckles on some people(white) or to appear to have lighter skin in other ethnic groups.  I know a woman from China who was part owner of a chain of skin lightening shops in China.  Apperantly it is a huge trend in Asia, and has been for centuries.  Pale skin indicates wealth since you do not have to work in the sun.  The term redneck comes from poor whites who had to work outside, and got sunburns on thier necks.  My friend told me in Shanghai women try to get desks away from windows in offices to avoid the sun.

Or to be a Suicide Girl couldn't you just cover your self with white body powder for the sessions?

Congratulations on that Suicide Girls are HOT!!!

You can also get a pale spray tan to even out the lines untill they fade.. roughly $35 for a good professional job, and cheaper than a full body exfoliation.

Congrats

Thank you everyone.  Suicide Girls is not really all it's cracked up to be.  They claim to have "real" women, yet I have to change my appearence in order for them to even look at my sets.  I have to dye my hair (to black) and get rid of my tan lines.  But, I'll do almost anything for a buck [:D]

I will try to exfoliate and then try tanning for a little bit without any clothing on at all.  We'll see how that goes.  I don't have a whole lot of money to put towards the modeling thing (I get the tanning very cheaply through a connection that I have at a tanning salon)

sub4hire -> RE: How to get rid of a tan (2/2/2007 4:43:12 PM)

I tan all of the time...I'd start tanning in the nude if I were you.  Also exfoliate, exfoliate and exfoliate some more.
Loofas are cheap and you can do it in the shower.

I'm surprised that a doctor would recommend tanning daily with the associate links to skin cancer. Forgive me if i seem dumb but i'v got to ask what's a suicide girl ??
I could hazard a guess but it's better to know than to think i know..

Seasonal affective disorder is a nasty disorder.  A person who does not get full broad spectrum light ends up suffering from moderate to severe depression.

Probably have to go makeup, or go to a tanning salon and tan nude.

One of the benifits of tanning is Vitamin D.
There's ton's of others........................

Siamsa, I'm with the thought of tanning nude .. at least your even then.

OffTheBeatenTrak -> RE: How to get rid of a tan (2/3/2007 6:36:44 AM)

Cheers for the link, wasn't sure if it was a BDSM term or not.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SuicideGirls
Possibly a more descriptive link to what a SuicideGirl is..

Quivver,

There are short term benifits both physicly and phycological but i would of thought that these benifits would be out wieghed by the long term damage and risk of skin cancer caused by tanning daily. IMO.

Off topic for getting rid of a tan (haven't a clue - I'm a cancerphobe so I don't do the tanning bit), but weren't the Suicide Girls on CSI New York a few weeks ago?

kazinja -> RE: How to get rid of a tan (2/3/2007 8:01:03 AM)

A few remarks, telegram-style because of limited time.

- Quiver’s advice does sound very bad to me. Risk versus benefit is unacceptable for most products. They can contain hydroquinone, hydrogen peroxide, mercury and steroids.
- there is a difference between skin bleaching and skin whitening, brightening or lightening
- only hydroquinone can be classified as bleaching. It can have side effects, most of which are reversible if you stop using it. Medical supervision only. The others are downright scary.
- most products are meant to be used topically only and under supervision of a specialized physician to get rid of local dark spots. Applying such products on the whole of your body is pure madness in my opinion.
- documentation of harmful effects of such products can be found everywhere, thanks to their widely distributed use especially in African countries (where non-medically indicated use is fashionable and big business) and the reports of damage they have done.
http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0PDG/is_2_4/ai_n13559169 and many more.

- SAD or seasonal affection disorder can improve when using broad-spectrum high-intensity lighting. Broad-spectrum is not the same as full-spectrum; the presence of the UV-part is not required here, as has been shown in comparative studies.
- for the conversion of vitamin D into the effective D3 form, the presence of UV(B) light is required though, so there seems to be more to SAD than just UV. Pineal gland, serotonin/melatonin conversion?
- light that appears white to us does is not necessarily full-spectrum, far from it. ‘White’ LEDs e.g. are anything but full- or broad-spectrum (actually a narrow blue band with some yellow provided by a phosphor coating).

Bottom line:
Regular exposure of your skin to daylight is good for you, prolonged daily exposure to direct sunlight is a less desirable thing and not necessary for a healthy life. “10 - 15 minutes of sun exposure at least two times per week to the face, arms, hands, or back without sunscreen” are quoted as sufficient (source NIH), but not during the hours directly before or after noon.
In northern regions during the winter months you may consider vitamin D supplementation and/or commercially available broad-spectrum light sources.
When suffering from SAD you might have problems with your serotonin levels (too much is as bad as too little). A very good biochemistry-friendly naturopathic or orthomolecular therapist might provide help.

Lots of success and don’t touch the bleaching/whitening stuff!

Kazinja
