hi everyone
i was reading that torquay council is putting up a statue of basil fawlty. to commerate john cleese's sitcom 'fawlty towers'.
it made me wonder, how many statues r there of people who never exsisted in real life? or probably never existed. the only other one i could think of is robin hood. who has a statue in the grounds of nottingham castle.
so answers on a postcard please or by email to here.
ps this is about statues of people not gods.

Well, the character of the Hotelier Basil Fawlty was after a fashion, based on a real hotelier in Torquay.

And do you mean numbers or kinds?  Because god and jesus got alot of statues goin on out there.

I thought there was one of the Mermaid in Copenhagen. Not sure if that fits your criteria for non-existant people.

At the risk of offending the religous amongst us, some could say almost every church has a statue of some sort of either Mary or Christ.

PLEASE DONT TURN THIS INTO A THREAD ON DID THEY EXIST OR NOT!!!!!!

Any statue of any god or goddess, ever.

Oops, missed your qualification there.

Does wax count?

What about mannekins?

And dinosaurs?  They never really existed as people.  I think.

There's a few (8 that I can think of) of Peter Pan.

Here there's also a ton of mermaid statues painted by local artists around the city, following the trend of animal statues in other cities.

Are you suggesting Peter Pan did not exist?

I have a statue of Spongebob sitting next to my sink....

He's not wearing pants; does that make me a pervert?
