I'd say run for office, if the subject does come up ask for equal time. It's only fair if one candidate has his sexual proclivity in the public forum so to should his opponent.

Politics is about convincing stupid people to vote for you, 98% of voters would vote for their own execution if you worded it right.  Grasp that and you can win.

Sex IS a big issue but it is also how you handle it.  Look at that frigging moron Gary Hart.  I was working on that bastards campaign and if had said he was in love with that woman, he would have been fine, instead he denied it, dared the press to follow him and then went to his house.

Clinton was cheating on his wife and having sex on the floor of the oval office.  Again, it is all about spin.  Setting the S&M issue in the right light (being submissive is differnt than being a man who beats women) could make all the difference.

Screw the naysayers, they are always right till they are wrong.

Sorry, littlesarbon.

Keep dreaming, dear boy - we aren't there yet.

It would make a fab novel though!

Thank God for Hans Blix.

My neighbors know something is going on my house (S&M shit that they can hear) and they know that I am involved with two women (wife and Mistress who they see come and go) and I am sure that they have gossiped about it too. There is nothing I can put my finger on, but my neighbors now do treat me differently. O well.

Recently, I just threw my hat back in the ring to maybe get more active in our neighborhood affairs.

As for S&M and politics, expect your enemies and rivals to use it against you. Stigmatizing one's opponent is the first order of business in most poltical arenas.

I think SimplyMicheal has a good point about controlling the spin, if possible. As opposed to looking depraved, spooky, deranged or defensive, its better to look independent, free spirited, and pioneering. No matter what, for politics and deviant behavior to mix, one will need savoir faire in the public arena.

Pray tell. I think the moral majority prefer wife beaters. It is in the bible, you know.

A chipper, saucy bottom owned by Queen Domina Royale providing him the luxury of licking her feet, washing her panties, then her windows all while he wears a french maid's uniform, and then torturing his sweet peepee until he cries. John Wayne, I tell you!

Oh yes, the grand US of A would lynch his pretty little ass.

SimplyMichael - YOU have a better chance at the presidency. A traditional fellow like you? Why you'd fit in tight with the good old boy network.

( ouch, how about going small scale in a very liberal city first? - besides: who wants John Wayne ;))

He could always say " I don't recall".

This may be slightly off topic but could it be possible that bdsm plays an important part in our political system.  Afterall, the whole Washington environment is run by lobbbyists who routinely give gifts to politians to secure votes, among those gifts being sexual services which most likely included some bdsm practises.  :-)

Thanks for the clarity. We're not nearly there, alas.  And hey, if you need a co-author...*s*

.It'll take a couple of fall guys before the stigma is gone.

You couldn't have elected a gay man in the 50's...today it's no big deal.

Getting whipped by a woman or sniffing shoes is gonna be a slightly bigger hurdle.

No big deal? How many openly gay Senators/Representatives have been elected.

Vermont elected one... if I remember correctly... but Vermont is... quirky. A few states have openly gay men in their state congresses. That doesn't mean it isn't a "problem" for the campaign.

When North Carolina (my semi-home state) or Georgia elects a gay governor/senator/whatever, that's when it'll be ok to say it's "no big deal."

Ask a campaign manager if a gay candidate is a hinderance or not. It shouldn't be, but it is.

Once upon a time, I was part of a 'couples-only' group that would meet every month or so.  The oddest thing about it is that the host who lived onsite at the 'club' was a single TV.

At any rate, one night there was a 'guest' couple who lived in Washington D.C.  Introductions went around, there was some discussion, people played.  The usual.

It wasn't until an hour or two later that I put two and two together and finally asked the woman.....

'Weren't you the Vice Presidential candidate on the Libertarian ticket a couple years back?'

Of course, we're not talking about the Big Two parties, and I don't know who would have known her in that type of setting, but stranger things have happened.

'We' have lots of barriers, starting with the ones we have to cross to accept ourselves.  Where we choose to go from there is, of course, an individual choice.  As time goes on the skin becomes thicker and thicker to what others think and feel of us.

It was the name of the yatch he and Donna Rice were on that did him in.
