I keep coming back to integrity after this thread.
What it means to me is some vessel or thing is functional. When extreme pressure is applied it continues to function.
It loses integrity if testing, or pressure build up or it breaks down.
I think right or wrong, it's when you are who you say you are and you don't color it into being someone else for any one as you stand firm you work as you should.
Of course to have integrity there's maintenance and overhauls necessary to keep it, but it does not dysfunction just because it's gotten harder.

I agree that is very well stated. I think because integrity is a positive and good thing that people want to associate only with goodness and other positive qualities, but for me, it is not about associating with positive other qualities but ones commitment and work ethic to living your values and beliefs whether good or bad in another’s eyes.

An example I have is there is a fellow nurse I work with who tells everyone that she only wants to do the minimum and will hardly ever swap shifts or do favors so do not ask. I do not really respect this type of behavior but I know where she stands and can completely trust her in what she is about. There is another nurse who talks every minute of the day about how much she is dedicated to her job and always is receptive to swapping shifts. In reality though she misses more days then the rest of us combined and thinks nothing of coming up to you to rescind her offer to swap a shift. To me the latter has a better heart and belief system but has very little integrity while the former I disagree with how she views life but at least shows integrity by living toward her beliefs and values.
