A "virtual metaverse".  Sounds like the closest thing to a fully immersive online world so far.  Comparable to the Matrix... probably not, but going in that direction.

Anybody here take interest in this?  I think it was very well thought out and will eventually be considered the beginning of a monumental new direction for computers and the net.  If you can program or graphically design, you have an incredible level of control over objects in the environment.  I've barely seen any of the world but people have created some amazing things and the possibilities are mind boggling.

Zsuzsanna -> RE: Second Life (1/9/2007 7:33:47 PM)

My best friend is ADDICTED to it. When he is not at work he is slutting about with everyone he sees. [sm=biggrin.gif] I have watched him play a bit and I think I might try it out.

deathitivity -> RE: Second Life (1/10/2007 2:51:03 PM)

Yeah, that's the problem with a lot of online games, they are extremely addictive.  Though Second Life doesn't suffer from the tediousness and repetition most others do (partly because it's not really a game in that sense).  Maybe I'm a nerd but I think it's too cool to pass up on.

amativedame -> RE: Second Life (1/10/2007 3:50:10 PM)

I tried it,but didn't really catch on with me because I couldn't bring myself to pay...

although if you're talented in building/have money to spend there I can easily see it being very addictive.

I found the concept really interesting...  wonder how long it will take before it really catches on?

Was reading today (Discover, best of 2006) about a guy who has implanted a chip with hundreds of pins in a person's brain to read impulses.  By doing this, they have enabled a quadriplegic person to move a cursor, read email, etc., etc.

We are only a pin or two away from having plug holes in the back of our heads, having to eat goo containing everything the body needs, and dating the Woman In Red.

Indeed, I can't wait.  Things are moving at an exponential rate and if you think about it long enough you'll probably scare yourself.

I want to be assimilated..

meatcleaver -> RE: Second Life (1/11/2007 2:46:23 AM)

I'm aware of it and enthusiasts make vast claims for it, such as reconnecting our minds with our bodies for the first time since the middleages. It seems to me to separate the mind from the body, period. I spend too much time in front of the computer working, which is why I'm posting now, its a distraction from the real world of earning money. In 20 minutes I'll take a walk down to the haven for lunch and a chat with friends and make arrangements for socialising this evening. If r/l ever gets so sad I have to seek salvation in a computer, I'll top myself.

NorthernGent -> RE: Second Life (1/11/2007 2:44:22 PM)

A friend of mine gets involved in it. He's busy building nightclubs and a business empire and he's making some money out of it.

He reckons the major attraction is that you can be the person you've always wanted to be - there aren't any barriers like there are in r/l.

Boy, have you made an understatement here.

I got "In World" five weeks ago and barely log out to sleep (I think I'll buy stock in redbull and rockstar).  I now am the proud owner of a low prim private island sim, I just sold a 2048m waterfront parcel (at a profit), and am currently developing a zen garden style shopping plaza on 14Km road frontage on the new continent (actually it's north of the new continent on sims that haven't been announced yet).  I'm just about ready to launch my new Xcite! enabled jewelry line, and my custom skin to match my dragon avatar for the RP sims I participate in is on order.  I've stayed away from the BDSM related things, other than the occasional browsing and shopping to stock my in world dungeon, have not declared myself as a dominant and still have subs waiting to 'get in.'

The only reason I had time to stop in here is because the grid is down for maintenance.  I'm doomed, but what a way to go!   [:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

In world (Second Life) I have a weapon that imbeds into the back of your skull.  It's a nasty piece of work and can get you banned if you're not very careful, but I'm no longer plagued while map surfing by fools with huge penises.  I bought the pink one because they gave 20% to breast cancer research for it.

But I'm not a paraplegic.

Sicarius -> RE: Second Life (5/2/2007 11:17:14 AM)

Second Life actually has an enormous BDSM, Gorean, and D/s subculture associated with it.  I think that in addition to the lifestylers, it also draws a lot of attention from the curious vanilla sorts ... I've seen a lot of people begin to express their interests there, and I definitely support it.

If there's anyone who plays that doesn't know what I'm talking about, search Places for locales such as Dungeon Online (Aurora) and the Supreme Fetishist club.  Both of those (especially the first) have some very interesting people associated with them.  There are also a lot of other more popular venues like the Bondage Playground and Bondage Ranch, but I can't really attest for the people there.  Never stuck around for too long.

Would that be the Aubretec Psitec attachment?  Heh.  I bought mine before they released the pink model, unfortunately.

WOW! Now i'm really gonna have to push for a new computer. I started playing there and enjoyed it. I love flying without having to use a plane. [8D] I had to stop playing though cause my stupid computer ain't strong enough to handle the game properly.
