slavejali -> How the world has changed (in a good way)... (1/9/2007 12:17:52 PM)

I was just tracking via a webpage an item I purchased on the internet recently. It just made me stop and think for a second how much our lives have changed because of the internet (in a beneficial way).

These are some other things that have changed off the top of my head:

Because of the internet I can

1. Shop online, this has been really helpful saving me time and oftentimes a lot of money. It also gives me the opportunity to research items to see if I really need/want them without the pressure of sales people.

2. I can track items I've purchased right from the time they leave the factory till the time they land on my doorstep.

3.Well I guess it has to be mentioned that I probably would have never met my Master if it hadn't been for the internet, so in that light, it has opened the world up more, making it a smaller place.

4. Recipes. I use the internet so much for recipe hunting. It has really aided my cooking skills.

5. It has expanded my knowledge in various areas. I can explore to my hearts content and find much more information to digest than I ever could through an encylopedia. As a kid I used to love reading encyclopedia's, always hungry for knowledge in one way or another.

6. It has assisted my travel. I can explore different areas of the world via the internet and find places to go to that I possibly never would have come into contact with if I hadn't been first introduced to them via the internet. So in that light it has expanded my mind and experience in regards to other cultures.

7. It has expanded my knowledge of health issues, which I think has been invaluable in extending the actual life of someone dear.

Anyways...thats a few...how has the internet been beneficial to you? In what ways has it influenced your life and introduced you to experience that perhaps without the internet you would have never had contact with?

Some of the things you've listed work for me as well.  The recipes.  Looking up items at different places to comparison shop.  The medical information and groups (such as yahoo groups), I took advantage of this before I had surgery last year, I felt well-informed and knew what type of questions to ask my doctor and surgeon, I felt empowered and I think it helped me recover faster than I would've otherwise.  I like the internet for keeping in touch with friends who live across the country, and family who live across the state.
