michellewarner -> Help! Trying to find a book (1/6/2007 10:25:08 PM)

Hi all.  I'm hoping someone out there can help me find the book I'm looking for.  It's a fantasy, probably published between 1988 and 1995.

One of the main characters is named Braden Brade's son.  Another is called the Wolf Prince, though I can't actually remember his name.  There's also another character who is Nature's Champion, and he came out of a tree.  There's a girl, Braden's sister, but I can't remember her name, either.

There are actually 2 princes -- the Wolf Prince and his brother.  Publicly, they hate each other, but behind the scenes, they're best friends.  The reason that they publicly hate each other is that their father wanted it that way.  He was rather nasty to the boys and deliberately sowed dissention among them when they were very young.

At one point, Braden becomes a member of the Wolf Prince's guard.  WP's brother tests Braden's loyalty by trying to make him a spy, maybe?  But Braden stays loyal to the Wolf Prince, so the princes let him in on the secret.

Does that sound familiar to anyone?  I'll happily answer any questions I can, but that's all I can remember off the top of my head.  I know it's not a lot of information to go on.  I read this book years ago, but can't remember the title or the author, and haven't been able to turn it up on the web.

Thanks much for any help anyone can give me, and I hope everyone is having a good night.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for:

Thank you, but that isn't it.  I don't recall there being anything especially unusual about the wolf prince.  He may have been able to use magic, but I'm not sure.  "Wolf prince" was a reference to his personality.

michellewarner -> RE: Help! Trying to find a book (1/7/2007 7:38:30 PM)

Hi all.  Still hoping someone out there might be able to point me to the book I'm looking for.  This is probably the only time I'll deliberately pull this thread back onto the first page.  If it disappears into the ether again, so be it, but I thought I'd give it one more chance to be seen and possibly responded to.

Okay, this is a longshot, but it can't hurt to try. Wikipedia has an entry for a reference book called The Encyclopedia of Fantasy. If you can find it in a bookstore or library, it may help you find your book. If your library doesn't have it, they may be able to get it through interlibrary loan.

Another idea might be to post your plea on a fantasy message board, where someone may recognize the story quickly.

It might be worth trying the Realms of Fantasy forums and/or the forums at SFFworld.com.

Hope this helps!

Isn't that the book where one has black hair and the other has blonde hair.  In typical fashion, people don't like the dark-haired one and they all like the blonde haired one... at least until they get to know them and they end up liking the darker haired one?

Nevermind, that's "Curse of the Mistwraith" that I was thinking of, by Janny Wurtz

*smile*  Thanks everyone for the good suggestions.  Sorry it's taken me so long to check in and actually say "thank you," but I just got a new job and have spent the last 2 weeks basically working and sleeping.  Hope everyone is having a good day.

I hope you're enjoying the new job! Good luck on your book search.
