happypervert -> The Godfather of Soul went out in style (12/31/2006 8:21:15 AM)

I was channel surfing this morning and saw something about James Brown on BET, and it turned out to to be an open (gold) casket celebration of his life. I'm not a fan of Al Sharpton, but he gave a great eulogy; Jesse Jackson gave one too. Even Michael Jackson was there to say how he was inspired by watching JB as a kid. All this was on a stage, and a funky soul band played in between speeches. It was a rocking good show.

That service was filmed in Augusta, GA on Friday; the day before they did something similar at the Apollo Theater in NYC. It's funny, but I kinda feel sorry that Jerry Ford had such a modest send off -- seems like a president shouldn't get shown up like that by a singer.

If i'm right and i may not be lol but when i glanced at news i think i saw his open coffin in front of a stage where people paying tribute to him through song etc. I found it kind of creepy.
On the note of James Browns send off being  more outrageous than Jerry Fords - well thats show business. I dont even know who Jerry Ford is to be honest but im presuming he was some kind of politician in which case understated for a funeral seems to fit better than the opulence of james browns.

Perhaps Ford wanted it that way. He had 93 years on planet Earth to decide...smiles

Personally I feel James Brown added more to my life than Ford did.

Edited to add: I love your new signature line

James Brown IS the Godfather of Soul, he deserved the wonderful celebration he got.
Its not a matter of being "shown up" its a matter that they happened to pass away at the
same time.  Now let me go practice dancing on the good foot!!! See you in heaven

Uh....cut to the Pearly Gates, St. Peter and all the angels...greeting the big THREE:

Saddam Hussein, Jerry Ford and James Brown.

A horrific mass murder and despot, the guy who pardoned Richard Nixon and the Godfather of Soul.

Do you have any doubts who gets into heaven?  If you have a moment's thought...you need to stop thinking and watch  this about 22 times.

and that's just what he could do with a bunch of square white kids.  I have no doubt the angels are dancing tonight.

i know this may not sit well with some, but i'm wondering...

when James Brown died...was his last words "I feel good"?

(meant solely as a humorous inquiry and not intended to offend anyone)
