Rule -> RE: Really Scary Nightmares...anybody have them? (2/17/2007 1:35:32 AM)

I remember having had one as a child. It was so scary that I got up, went to my parents' bed and wiggled between them.

I had another, extremely vivid one, also as a child, when I was under narcosis and parts of my healthy tonsils were being removed.

Nearly every day I could tell you a dream or fragments of a dream I had the night before. Often elements of those dreams have some basis in my real life- a sign I saw on the road, a person someone mentions briefly in conversation, etc....I tend to think it's my brain trying to sort out the endless input of information I have during the day and file it away at night in some attempt to bring meaning to that fleeting thought.. Most of the time I can tie the frightening dreams into anxiety that I am experiencing, but not processing well. A dream that my parents were drowning, and I could not save them came after an annoucement that my dad was going to have heart surgery. That " I can't control this " feeling took on another form, but the feeling was the same...fear of loss.  For a while, I kept a dream diary, and while I might not see connections at that moment, reading it later told me a lot about what was happening with me emotionally at that time. Perhaps that would help you, and lessen some of the anxiety you have about the dreams.
