I've got 50 quarts of sauce cooking for lasagna, Two industrial size boxes of lasagna noodles that just came out of the water, 20 quarts of Alfredo sauce, another industrial size box of fettucine noodles that I just put on, 25 lbs of boneless, skinless chicken breast to bread and fry for Chicken Parmesan, 10 loaves of bread that got baked this morning, 2 trays of Tiramisu in the fridge that I made last night, the biggest bowl of Caesar salad you ever saw and 50 people coming for dinner!!! I just want to melt into a tub of bubbles!!!

What all have you got going on today???

I decided to work today (time and a half) because there was a cruise ship in and I wanted to porter (throw luggage, make huge money in tips), but other people gobbled up all the porter jobs.  So Im driving a forklift making good money and enjoying my 4 hour break.

Kinda glad I did not get a porter job.  The ship offloaded about 29 people, so tips would be sparse.

I spent Christmas with my family.  I only had to take one dish for dinner.  But I took two as I received a huge tray of cookies as a Christmas gift and I can't eat all of those.  It's been a nice day.

Well, me being everyone's token single guy, everyone felt sorry for me and I've already done 2 invites, got 1 more to hit before the day's over, getting fed all kinds of great food, good drinks...just stopped at the house to grab a clean shirt and in about an hour or so, I'll be off to do it all again, I'll have gained 5 pounds easily, and come home to a clean kitchen and two cats who I'm sure are dying for me to go to bed so they can stick their butts in my face sometime between then and 6 a.m.

spent the morning with his family and the afternoon with mine.  Now I'm getting ready for work and will work one job after the other until Thursday (20 out of every 24 hours at one job or the other, fun fun)

But you might have needed a cold shower!

You are as bad as i used to be on holidays. I miss it sometimes but in the long run this is easier.

I did bake tons of cookies and made lots of candy. But we had the kids over Christmas Eve for Christmas Chicken soup, a party tray, lots of different bread and rolls and stuff which i made the day before.

Then we just relaxed and played.

I did cook a little ham and a turkey breast yesterday with the fixings but we had nibbled on stuff and played to the point where we were to tired to eat dinner so we will eat it today.

PS; asked Scooter what he got in his stocking. I'll give you a hint, we put it in a velvet wine bag to keep it from getting ink all over it this time, lmao.........

Come on down the hot tub is hot!

Erin,

I hope that your dinner went off without a hitch!  It sure sounds good.  Fifty people?  FIFTY people?  You are a true humanitarian.

For more than 10 years I've generally opted out of the traditional christmas shindig.  I'd done it to death and found myself worn out for all the wrong reasons on the holiday.

This year, however, my son was with me on the holiday for the first time in a long time and I'm now living in close proximity to more relatives than I've ever met.  So, with my son's encouragement and assistance, I did the full monty for 8 (it's all I have place settings for).  Since my mother's silver, china and crystal hasn't been used since she died, there was much preparation in addition to shopping, cooking and cleaning to do.  My son had never polished silver before and it was actually a very pleasant evening to spend in front of the TV with him while we wore our fingers out together as I reminisced about the convolutions my mother went through to pick out said silver/china/ et al, her motivations for doing same, and what the expense meant to her and my father.  He now has a pretty clear understanding that my mother was trying to create a legacy, heirlooms, that she never had.  When it's passed to him, as it was to me, he understands that it's not about 'the stuff' but it's about what his grandmother cared to create for him before he was ever conceived.

Having been terribly ill with a head and chest cold for the last 10 days or so there was no way I could have gotten it done without my son's help.  As we were cleaning up afterwards he said "Good lord, I'm exhausted!  Now I understand why you were always so stressed on the holidays" and that was quite a christmas present for me!    Now he not only knows which fork to use when he sits at a formal table, but he knows how to set that table and how to fold the napkins!

I opted out of traditional holiday trappings years ago because I had lost the ability to experience the holiday due to the stress of it all.  This year my son gave the experience back to me and sharing the stress made it worthwhile.

I hope your holiday was equally full filling.
