Status: offline 		I came across a reference to "Free Companion" in email.  I am guessing it means a girlfriend/boyfriend into kinky stuff but not going steady ...?  It was used in reference to some people here locally (YES - there are at least two).  Can anyone enlighten me?

Status: offline 		It's a Gor expression regarding women who are not slaves but are "married" to a man of Gor. I put married in quotes because it's a lot like marriage, but not.

FC Free Companion
FW Free Woman

The companion being hooked up and the woman being a master

Status: offline 		A Free Companion indicates a gorean female who is not enslaved but is involved in a committed relationship with a gorean male.  A Free Companion is submissive to her gorean mate, but is not submissive to all gorean males.  A Free Companion agreement is "usually" negotiated every year and renewed.  A gorean Free Woman is a woman who is not enslaved within the gorean context.  She is not necessarily a "Master" but is addressed within the gorean community as "Mistress" and is accorded the respect of any gorean free person by the community and those slaves within the community.

Yes everything that has been said here is true in Gorean terms.  I must say I am amazed at those here and their knowledge of Gor.  One thing that I may want to clarify is that a Free Woman and Free Companion of Gor were not protected from being enslaved.  The Male Free Companion could collar her for the slightest displeasure.  In many of the Cities laws were created which punishment was enslavement.  For example in the City of Ar, if a Free Woman was caught "Couching" (meaning having sex) with a slave male or female, she would be collared herself.  However, in some Cities, a Free Woman or Free Compaion could take the issue to a Magertrate who would rule in her being collared or have the collar removed.
 
The Free Compaion concept has it orgin in the old Celtic "Hand Fasting".  This was also done for a year, in fact the Cermony pledge is called "A Year and Day".  This cermony is still in partice today.

Mary..just an FYI.. above each post on the right hand corner of that individual post are buttons. If you are the person who wrote that individual post, there will be one that says edit. ...just click edit and it will reopen the box and you can make changes to the post.

i don't think goreans mean you wear "funny- clothes" ;you usually wear something more comfortable to lay your mate anyway ;what ever that may be ;but,
i think 'gorean' implies something like costumes or archaic garb ,to most people ,just as does the similar relationship called  a "50's- deal" implies , altho ,both gorean and 50's deal relationships seem to be interpreted as somewhat archaic ,simply ,by termonolgy or ,via it's title in essence ,it is , not necessarilly imply the "funny-clothes"...
it, just means the 'type of contract' ,with a time period and clothes stigma inherent in its name, that's all....(you gotta' call a contract something).... but seriously ya ,with me at least ;i gotta wear the "funny-clothes"
