Your argument falls apart when people look out the back window to reverse. In this instance where you have been is more important than where you are going. Also why does the rear window have a heating element when the windshield doesn’t? This points to the fact that where you have been is of equal importance if not more important than where you are going.

maybe when going forward the front window is the most important and when in reverse its the rear window .
