That animals eat.  So my cat Snow is a definete pig.  He begs worse then anyone else in the house but the fish.  The problem with him is he is dominant and just sort of walks over and expects to be given.  Case in point, i was eating cheerios this morning and he hopped up on my lap to help me out.  So i KNOW he has weird eating habits.  He likes green chips = )

Now my dog has recently surpised me by eating the bok choy out of the garden.  So i pulled out a head, washed it off and fed it to the dog.  She seemed to enjoy it.  My daughter managed to snap the top off a squash which the dog also obligingly ate.  Odd to me...  Dog wont eat carrots but she'll gobble up some yellow squash and bok choy!

I had a kitty named Sammi once and she used to eat asparagus like it was meat.  Stealth up to the plate.. snatch a piece of asparagus.. take off running with it.. gobble it up.. and come back for more.

what wierd things have your animals eaten?

My Yellow Lab once got ahold of a bottle of gear lube that was in the garage. She couldn't get the top off but she managed to puncture the bottle with her teeth and was happily licking up what was oozing out when I caught her. Well, I was panic stricken as I had no idea what it might do to her. I called the vet and told him what had happened. He asked me if she was an indoor dog or an outdoor dog. I said that she is an indoor dog. He said..."Well.....you might want to consider making her an outside dog for the next 24 hours or so". He was sooooooo right.....everything that dog ate for the next day shot through her at the speed of light!!!

My Chocolate Lab has this odd fondness for bra straps. Actually, it's the only non-food item he seems to ever go after. If I leave a bra laying anywhere he can reach it....dirty clothes....clean clothes....he eats the straps right off it. He never actually eats the bra...just the straps.

I also used to have a dog that loved hot sauce. She had a habit of walking up to the coffee table and trying to lick any plate or cup that was there. The vet told me to set a saucer of the hottest hot sauce I could find down on the table and once she got a taste of it, it would break her bad habit. Well....she LOVED it!

I had a minature Yorkie who loooooooooovvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeeedddddddddddddd Quality Street Chocolates. He'd eat a half dozen or so (no small feat considering he weighed a little over 3 lbs). But he'd only eat them with the wrappers on... the vet said that probably saved his life. I had to stop buying the chocolates since he would always find a way to them.

A friend of mine's dachshund ate a package of hot dogs once. Seemed almost like cannibalism.

My doberman Caesar would only eat lettuce if there was mayonaisse on it
I had a german shepard that would not eat meat off a bone, you had to cut it off the bone and into pieces for him or he wouldnt touch it.
And my St bernard Bailey eats about anything paper that she can get at.  Tissues and toilet paper are her favorites, and we have to keep all the bathroom doors closed now since obviously the roll is a veritable smorgasboard.  She also has a thing for shoelaces.  Shel eat them right out of the shoes, but not touch a single piece of the rest of the shoe.

Oh man.  You might remember from the "pet thread" a while ago that we have LOTS of animals.   And lots of weird eats.*

My now gone beloved Newf/Lab used to eat bees.  Every late summer, he'd hang around the honeysuckle and snap 'em up.  The weird thing was that he clearly would get stung in his mouth once in a while, and not care...except he'd get "that look" on his face each time one got him.

We used to raise Irish Wolfhounds.  Probably still my favorite purebred.  My wife was a computer consultant when the Rubik's cube came out, and every job shop would send them to her as a business "favor".  We probably had 20 lying around the apartment.  Our IW bitch loved to eat plastic, and she found the Rubik's cubes really tasty.  I'd come home and find a pile of toothmarked "cubies" where she'd crack em off, one by one.  She was very delicate in her eating habits (all 150 lb engines with the jaw strength of a punch press should be delicate, right).

She also one day ate a cheap alarm clock...or so it seemed.  I found a few stray pieces.  That night, she was sleeping at the side of the bed as she would, and about 2 a.m. I hear beep beep...beep beep...beep beep.  And I look over the bed...and I think "Oh man...its like the crocodile in Peter Pan   tick...tick....tick"

Please note that tomatoes and chocolate can both be very deadly to animals, so can rhubarb and many houseplants. Especially poinsettias. Onions are also fairly toxic.

Dogs and cats are both omnivores to a degree, dogs moreso than cats probably. Table scraps are EXTEMELY unhealthy for all pets.

After having had dogs with problems including diabetes, allergies and obesity, I switched my animals to an all natural fresh food. It involves vegetables and fresh meat mixed with some whole grains (not corn) fed either once or twice a day (depending on preference). They quite often eat fresh fruits and veggies and love them.

In addition I have had the most bizare things chewed on by bored young dogs in addition to the normal, bras underwear jeans shoes tv remote mail etc etc etc..........

Voltare -> RE: The strange things.. (12/22/2006 12:29:22 PM)

Our tabby cat, Cleo, enjoys insects.  She gargles happily, swishes her tail, and pounces flies - sometimes jumping in the air and catching them with both paws, before happily swallowing them whole.  Moths, beetles, spiders - you name it, she dines on em.

Constantine (the black cat) is psychotic for milk.  gretchen usually has a little cereal in her bowl of milk, and whatever drops she leaves in, Constantine 'claims' in TWUE dominawght fashion.  He'll also tear the garbage apart if he can smell tomatoes in it.  He must have been Italian in a past life.

SDFemDom4cuck -> RE: The strange things.. (12/22/2006 12:48:01 PM)

Chloe the Whippet loves peanuts. Strangely she won't eat any other nut but peanuts she goes mad for and will whine and whine until she gets one. She loves popcorn as well.

Sammy Two Toes the Greyhound loves anything plastic. He won't eat it per se but he especially loves to chew up the little plastic bottle tops until they're flat and no longer crunchy. As I was doing my usual straightening of the doggie beds last night I lifted his and came across a cache of blue bottle tops that had been pulverized to flat disks. Just blue ones. He likes chewing on anything plastic and I've learned to put the new remote on a hiiigh shelf but he seems to actually listen for the fizz of a bottle being opened and will snatch it off the counter top quicker than a flash and run off with it. Try prying a small bottle top out of a 90+ lbs grey's mouth when he really doesn't want to give up his little snacky!
