I can just imagine Lewis Black spewing forth on this one...with pretty much "How the hell does someone fail a gender test? The story says this athlete had no evidence of any sexual gender reassignment surgery, so...you take the runners pants off, if he's got a dick and some balls, it's a GUY!!!!!  No balls, a slightly different shaped pee hole than the guy version, take a wiff of the hair and around their neck...if they smell nicer than the guy version...it's a GIRL!!!!!"

Status: offline 		The way I'm reading this is that the lady tested positive for being XXY which is unusual but possible as is XYY. If I'm remembering this correctly one of the side effects is production of higher concentrations of hormones in this instance testosterone that in theory would give an athletic advantage.

Status: offline 		Life is just full of suprises. That's life. I always thought that these Gender Test were completed before the event. I'm suprised this person was allowed to race in the first place. If you ask me, I belive this was nothing more than a political move in the black market. "Let's see what happens after the race. If we're wrong in who comes in what place, then we'll fall back on a failed gender plan."

Status: offline 		When I was in hospital once, there was this young girl in the bed beside me. She was in hospital because she was 16 and didn't have her menstruation and puberty hadnt hit her yet, so they were doing exploratory surgery. I didn't mean to eavesdrop but its a bit hard not to when your right in the next bed. After the surgery she was told she had no defined sex or something like that. She had an shallow opening where her vagina was but nothing else, to even function as a female within a sexual relationship she would have to have surgery so that she could have sex. God I felt sorry for her hearing her mother and her cry.I think it is right up there as one of the saddest things I've ever been a part of .....I wonder how she would have tested for something like that...she had been raised as a girl and thought she was a girl.

Well said.  This seems to be something some folks have trouble getting their head around.  Some folks just need gender to be black and white - and it's not always that simple (mentally, emotionally and/ or physically).

(Interestingly enough, nowhere in the article does it mention the runner being either a girl OR a guy....yet several have already assumed either or both).
