Well, I'm new to this scene and was initiallly looking to read through these message boards to find some answers. But I decided to say "F" it and let me post my question.
My boyfriend and I fell upon Dom/sub quite by accident, and quickly discovered that we love it. But we are also very concious that we have a lot to learn and both have a thirst to experience much more of it. Ideally, he is the one that really needs to get a grip on getting some training so that he can then mold me how he wants. This is both our preference. I have discovered that there are 2 ways of obtaining this experience. One is that a lot of Doms learned their skills from actually being a Sub .. and the other avenue would be from getting a mentor. So my question would be, how do we go about getting a mentor? I think this would be our best route. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Your best bet would be to go to some local BDSM events to meet others there with similar interests. Often, these events involve classes with will be a wonderful source of information for you and your boyfriend. It is also a way to meet people who may be willing to mentor him.

Seeiing you're near NYC, there are two groups in NYC that may be of interest. One is The Eulenspeigel Society (www.tes.org) and the other is DomSubFriends (http://www.domsubfriends.com/). They both have meetings at least weekly on a variety of topics, and have other events as well. If you prefer to stay in NJ, I'm sure there are groups there as well, I'm just not as familiar with them.

Hola Latina! and Welcome (both of you) to Collar Me, the Forums and the Lifestyle.

Our discussion group is currently in the middle of conversations about this very topic. We invite you to dive right in, and add your two cents, and ask for advice with our crew too. We are a strong mix of newcomers and those that are kind and respectful to them. Discussions are very active, intelligent, and helpful. We also have (literally) hundreds of links - educational, social, local, fetish, etc. - to use as a resource as well.

Hopefully, you'll take the time to stop by. Best regards,
David Dream Wizard and His dream girl, joy

I hear Paddles in NYC is an excellent club that you could go learn some tricks or play at being D/s.
